Why are there not more women and people of color in Congress?

It's 2007 and most members of the US Senate and House of Represetatives are still white males. Women and people of color have been allowed to run for office for decades, so it's not a legal issue anymore.

...how do you explain China? I personally believe in Free Markets . Not free in terms of hire your own legislators, but free in terms of producers and consumers being able to negotiate thier own transactions without supervision. China appears to have adopted this concept without sheding it's socialist government framework. How do you reconcile this?

natural curiosity, but nowhere have I ever found that there is a mandate for separation of church and state. There is, however, a mandate that the State (USA) shall not "establish" a state religion.

This may be splitting hairs to some, but I think it warrants serious consideration. I myself am not for an over-abundance of religion in political life, but I do not think our forefathers ever had the idea to "rid ourselves of a moral base". Is it not a moral and ethical base that keeps us from killing one another just because? And is it not this moral base that keeps us from committing any one of a number of atrocities upon one another?

One can argue, I believe, that without some religion in our background, anarchy and criminal activity would be the order of the day. That without some moral and ethical bases upon which to guide our conduct, we are certainly no better than a madhouse filled with, and governed by psychotics.

So, where did "separation of church and state" come from?

Obama was in the State legislature of Illinois for 7 years, and is a current Senator of the same state. Edwards was a trial lawyer and one term senator from North Carolina that ran an unsuccessful bid for VP in 2004. Neither resume jumps off the page as Presidential, but why single out Obama for his weak experience.

I had a situation a few weeks ago when I went to a store a few weeks ago. When I got in my car to leave I had my parking lights on and not my headlights. I was pulled over about a half a block away and of course asked for license an insurance. Well my license expired and of course not being a licensed driver I cannot be insured. I am a 31 yr old female who has not even had a parking ticket let alone a speeding ticket and I was arrested. My husband had to bail me out of jail and my court date is 4/13. I've been on many different sites and made many calls and they tell me don't worry about it and that I shouldn't have been arrested. They told me to explain my situation to the DA and proof of a renewed license and proof of insurance, but I'm terrified. I have never been in troubel before and now I have to deal with court. Any advice? And yes I know I should'nt have been driving on an expired license uninsured, I definately got that message sitting in jail for an hour and a half.

Michael Moore openly blames republicans in all crimes in the world. He is also openly fat. As much he is openly subjective to the point of being accused in lying. Does it make him big fat liar? Or scandalous? Or propagandist? Your thoughts on this…

There were so many people on these boards (mostly conservatives, all war supporters) talking about how they were sure liberals would hate this movie because it portrays war in a heroic way... is it true that there are goblins in this movie?

If that's the case, are those people freaking KIDDING me? A movie with GOBLINS in it is supposed to give me some sort of patriotic feel about war????

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional
heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford , Texas . Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the President of the United States , George W. Bush.
