There were so many people on these boards (mostly conservatives, all war supporters) talking about how they were sure liberals would hate this movie because it portrays war in a heroic way... is it true that there are goblins in this movie?

If that's the case, are those people freaking KIDDING me? A movie with GOBLINS in it is supposed to give me some sort of patriotic feel about war????

There were creatures in the movie resembling the "orcs" you saw in "Lord of the Rings".
It's just a movie based on Frank Miller's portrayal of the events which occurred at Thermopylae.
There are dialogues in the movie such as "one last hope for freedom", "fighting as free men"," fighting against slavery & oppression" which generally portray the Persians as a bad people & the Spartans/Greeks as the good guys fighting for democracy. I believe this caused quite a stir in Iran who linked this movie with Bush propaganda.
However, it's just a movie & its made for entertainment. Nothing else.
How do you want to see it ?

Rather a person's political affiliation is Republican or Democratic; Neo-Con or Liberal; the movie 300 appeal was its genera. Every so often Hollywood will produce a movie that captures the attention of public.

Overall the appeal of 300; is the heroic effort against all odds, to overcome adversities. The only political message: standing up for self-preservation.

I don't know about Conservatives accusing Liberals of hating the movie because of this. But I did hear about all these controversies of people being offended because it portrayed a certain group of people in a negative way based off of true events. From what I know, this movie was based off of a myth based upon some true events. I saw the movie, and in no way did I see how it was supposed to offend anyone except for the fact that it showed a couple of women's breasts and the blood and violence that the movie consists of. Now if you can tell me how these people can justify being offended over a movie that has paranormal beings in it. Then please explain.

Goblins? There aren't any goblins. There are some strange things in, but they are deformed (intentionally or genetically) humans - well, and some stuff that is not very realistic at all, but I am a libertarian (or an anarchist some say) and I thought 300 was great.

The Spartans are fighting off an invasion of an imperialistic leader. Liberals ought to love it.

Sorry dude, no goblins.

Yes, it portrays war in a heroic way (Sparta was a military state with required conscription). But, I didn't walk out of there feeling like I wanted to go enlist or something.

I'm a conservative and I saw the movie with my husband. Did I feel patriotic after wards? NO. It is a blood and guts testosterone driven slaughter. Was it entertaining? My husband thought so, he is a former Marine and well enough said. Would I see it again? No not even if I were being paid. It isn't worth the hour and half of my life lost forever.

Boy, this movie goes to show that it only takes 300 courageous warriors to inspire the whole of Greece to take to arms to fend their country from foreign occupiers! And Greece since then was never colonized! It's a great lesson to learn from: No nation wants to have its nation occupied and ruled by foreigners. : And along with this message, there are two more messages learned: Greek women in those era are not Stepford wives; and to beware of crooked and corrupt politicians who take bribes from the enemies to betray their country! :-)

LOL! Yeah- I didn't like the lame agenda that came with the movie- but the rest of it was COOL!
That part of the story line was not in the original comic. Way to get used, Frank Miller.

There was a little bit of fantasy added in but not much.
And I dont know why anyone wouldnt like it. fantastic cinematography, its a visually stunning movie I thought.
People trying to make it into something political like that is just silly.
