Bringing up children is a costly business. People who have children and cannot afford to bring them up are a drain on society. The taxpayer ends up footing the bill. I resent paying (out of taxes) for other peoples greed and irresponsibility. Should people who earn less than, say, 25k, therefore be forced to abort their burden?

If it becomes obvious the president is going to stay the course, or if he puts more troops into Iraq, when does the democratic congress step up and say, this is not what America voted us into office to do and put a stop to his actions?

let us say that somebody has wone over somebody else who has experienced defeat. The winner is self-assured and he enjoys in his victory. At the same time, the defeated person has learned his lesson well and become very strong because he has overcomed all his weakness. So, the defeated person continue to lose untill the victor completelly has fallen in his sphere of power. So, in the moment of the greatest power of the victor, the same glorious person become loser.
See history: In Russia Napoleon has ruined Russian cities but in his greatest conquest, he lose the war. Also the Nacist in Russia, when they were at the most powerfull position they started to fade. Also see Vietnam war: when the greatest power was used, it cause the greatest defeat.
So, who is real winner then?

Will you please look into this?
Just Say Thanks!
If you go to the web site at www.letssaythanks.com you can pick out a thank you card, the Xerox Corporation will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?

I know you'll pass this along.
tell me if you do it

Huge corporations have immense power already and they are getting bigger and more powerful. They shape the media, which shapes the minds of the masses. A handful of powerful media giants/corporations are able to decide how much airtime to give political parties, political decisions and they decide what we learn about as a people. Corporations are all about money, which means that politics is becoming more about money, rather than the good of the people as a whole

A democratic government is supposed to represent the people, but we now know the government often yields to the interests of these huge companies.

My question is:
How do we as a people a) wake up society to the truth and b) give control of our political destiny to the people? (How do we re-boot democracy?)

Yesterday, Prime Minister Harper made the following proclamation in Parliament:

"Having been asked by the Bloc to define the Quebecois, we must take a position. Our position is clear. Do the Quebecois form a nation within Canada? The answer is yes. Do the Quebecois form an independent nation? The answer is no, and the answer will always be no, because Quebecers of all political persuasions, from Cartier and Laurier to Mulroney and Trudeau, have led this country, and millions like them of all political persuasions have helped to build it.

...

"To millions more who live in a dangerous and dividing world, this country is a shining example of the harmony and unity to which all peoples are capable and to which all humanity should aspire."

I'm interested in feedback from Canadians to this comment. Is it a dangerous thing or positive thing for Canadian unity? Is there anything to the thought that this could lead to many "nations within a nation", as some Liberals indicated?

I believe our forefathers meant for all US citizens to have the right to run for public office. But only the very rich can afford to campaign seriously for the office of President because it is so expensive to run ads of all kinds and be on TV.
But I would like to run for President. How can I do that if I don't have lots of money? I think its time that the Nation had someone to be the voice for the People of America instead of Big business.

why not partition the country for example create a Kurd independent country, give to Kuwait part of the south and the city of Basora as compesation for the 1990 invasion give to Iran most of the eastern part of the country. to annex or give to the UN as a protectorate give Saudi Arabia a large part of the south along the actual border as payment for thier support, and the rest of the west between Jordan and Syria im sure they will taked a small central portion with Bagdad as capital can be left to the shia mayority as an independent state or put it under UN control is my belief that this will make the insurgency internal and external colapse and if not to turn against each other we most remember Iraq was created at the end of world war I before that there was no Iraqui State so lets called a failed proyect and do something diferent there had been precedents for this action the partition of germany afther world wars 1,2 the UN ca't say anithing abouth it becuse they refuse to intervine

Does anyone agree that although the US & UK are involved in an illegal was in Iraq ( confirmed by Kiof Annan)
they got their co-ordinates wrong...the real issue lies with the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.
this issue needs to be addressed urgently to secure peace for the region.
Bin Laden has stated he attacke America on 9/11 because of it bias towards Israel.
If Israel were to give back land seized in 1967,return to those borders and quit building illegal Jewish settlements on Arab land, the root cause for Al-Quaeda would be gone...they would have no more angst
