Unions throughout history have played a major role in keeping some sort of equality in wages between the rich and middle class. Unions are the reason we have a middle class, as unions shrink so does the middle class. Below is part of an article by Henry Paulson, the Treasury secretary.
"But it seems likely that government policies have played a big role in America's growing economic polarization -- not just easily measured policies like tax rates for the rich and the level of the minimum wage, but things like the shift in Labor Department policy from protection of worker rights to tacit support for union-busting" - Full Article URL: http://www.nytimes.com

I believe two parties for America is not enough - what I propose is have the right-wing form their own party - the Conservative Party of America, make the Republican Party strictly progressive and move it to the center, and keep the Democrats on the left as usual.

If we cannot abide by the UN then maybe we would be better off not having it. It is not the best to be arrogant about it, it needs to be abided by or abolished. We cannot have it both ways to suit the needs of any country. I will abide for this but not for that...that is just crazy thinking on the part of any country.

Upon picking up my 8 year old son from his first day at the new daycare,he came out holding his hands on the back of his neck,in pain, and which I could see pink and red bruise marks on his neck. When i asked him (in private) what was wrong,he reported to me that an adult male staff member had grabbed him by the neck, squeezed it hard enough to leave a bruise, and told him "I will teach you discipline-guaranteed!".He aslo told me that this adult male staff member then took his legs, grabbing them, and slammed him on the floor. This happened in a room with mats on the floor where the children had been playing and throwing around plastic balls. We complained to the woman at the front desk, and he told her in private the same he had told me.She asked him to look through the glass window in the hallway and point to the man who did it.He identified the man.I called the police and took my son to the hospital. The police tell me its not child abuse, its assualt.Magistrate says hearsay, wont let me press.

“As you know, we don’t have relationships with Iran. I mean, that’s ever since the late 1970’s, we have no contact with them, and we’ve totally sanctioned them. In other words, there’s no sanctions-you can’t –we are out of sanctions”—George W. Bush, Annandale, Virginia, August 9, 2004.

Did he just forget that insignificant little time between 1980 and 1988, when we covertly sold arms to Iran (aka the Iran-Contra affair)?

I'm not understanding why a country with little influence and power would provoke the nations of the world with their piddly nuclear tests, then say that it's an act of war if we sanction them which is a relatively painless action compared to military action. Does this have something to do with their communist beliefs and what are they trying to prove? Do they want to start WWIII?

While i'm not defending the horrendous acts they are accused of committing, I was wondering why it takes so long to execute death row inmates? I am not saying they should be killed off immediately, because I am not an advocate of the death penalty, but then again, neither am I against it totally...I think every situation is different. However, why do some inmates have to stay there so long? I read an article on this very subject, and they mentioned several cases. In one situation, a man committed a crime years ago, and by the time he was finally put to death, he was a lot older, and had some illness, where he no longer even remembered the crime he committed. I don't know if it was Alzheimers, but it was some disease that afflicted him once he got older. Not that this changed the fact that the man committed the crime, but why have the inmates sit so long? Why wait until this man is old and elderly, before finally making the decision to carry out his judgement?
