The Russians were the deciding factor. They ground Germany to a halt on an Eastern front that Hitler had demanded against the advice of his Generals.
The Russians suffered higher losses than all other nations put together and yet still kept throwing the fight at Germany. They split the German fighting machine and allowed the American -led forces to gain the advantage.
It is interesting to consider what might have been if Hitler had left Russia alone until he'd subdued the Allied forces. I suspect Europe would be a very different place today and America too for that matter. Russia would be the almighty Germany's closest ally, against the might of China. America would be an industrial power, but little more than that.
Its fascinating that a megalomaniac's irrational decision and delusional sense of his own power should have so changed the course of history. With Russia Hitler got it wrong. But so did Napoleon before him, for precisely the same reasons. Hitler should have learned a lesson from history.

The Soviet Union lost around 20 million people fighting the Nazi's, but in the end broke the back of the German war machine, the Western Allies seemed to be dragging there feet to open another front, it was great for Britain and America, the Nazi's and Communists beating the snot out of each other, they could swoop in and clean up the mess without too many of there boys getting hurt. It wasn't until the Soviets had kicked the Germans out of Russian territory did the Western Allies get off there asses and open a second in France, which was nearly undefended because the Germans needed all the men they had fighting the Russians in losing cause. So to answer your question it was the Eastern Allies that did most of the real fighting.

Eastern allies fielded much larger forces had much harder fighting, and took many many more casualties. I think the allies fielded 30 divisions v. Russia's 100 plus in Europe. If Germany had not been so heavily engaged on Eastern front allies would have had much more difficult time invading through France. And of course the Asian theater was almost pure US and Australian forces.

I think that there is really no question. The US saved WWII. Although they couldn't have done it without everyone else's help, they were critical in many operations. For starters, the US kept Japan in check and eventually overcame them. D-Day would have never happened without the US, which is arguably the turning point of the war in Europe. Both the UK and the US are western allies. The US also made the nuke. Although I do not advocate for the bombings, as they killed civilians, it still prematurely stopped the war.

Germany having to fight a two front war was very important in itself so I don't think there is a definitive answer.
Germany committed a lot more resources to their Eastern front. Russian casualties were much much greater than those suffered on the Western front.

That's sort of like asking which leg is more important, the left or the right. The answer is both.
