Great question! The answer is that you have to look into it yourself. Listen and read multiple sources and don't trust campaign promises. Most politicians are okay, many are lousy, a few are criminal, and a very few are wonderful public servants. Find those few and vote for them.

That's my best piece of advice: vote for the best public servant. Don't vote for the person who says they are best, vote for the person who 1. has experience (or at least knows what the job truly entails), 2. isn't bought by special interests and 3. has a plan for how to do the job. Finding all of this will take effort on your part, which is why most people don't do it.

Check for voter's guides from your county and from organizations you trust ~ but DON'T just do what they say! Read them and JUDGE whether they give good reasons, and THEN vote for who you think is the best person.

Good luck, you sound like you'll make a great adult citizen! :-D

Tough question I do not vote personally because I don't really care one way or the other. Fanatics freak out when they here this because in their mind even though a billion people are going to vote they think yours might be the tie breaker. I love to ask them after they tell me I have to vote who they are voting for then they go on and on and I tell them that I think I will vote against their pick then they turn around and tell me not to vote then. I do think when times were a lot slower and there were a lot less people and criminals running the show it was worth voting back in the day but now it seems kinda pointless. If you really feel you must vote try your best to find some one who really wants to deal with the problems at large with an open mind not some back woods nut job holy roller. Most of the trouble in the middle east is from nut job religious fanatics who got put in charge. Good luck and remember to vote.

My advice to you is to not vote at all.....unless Clinton or Donald Trump is running, or if an Independent can also run for the Presidency. It's come to the point where the political culture in America is so partisan, voters aren't able to decide which candidate/party to vote for. Most of the issues affecting Americans day-to-day aren't even being looked at with great care - the Republican Party has lost it's way after the Conservatives took over the party, and Democrats don't even have a front-runner for '08 and a united message for many of these issues.

Try to ignore spin and personalities. Vote on the party policies and what changes they plan to make.

But if you are in UK the reality is that only the torys or labour hae a shot at getting in next (or US with Republicans/democrates), so look into those two and choose what one you prefer and vote for it.

If you did vote for the greens or lib dems then unfortunately it is a wasted vote and it could let the one you didnt like (out of the labour/torys or Republicans/democrates) in.

There are criminals, liars, and just generally bad people in both parties. Do not turn against one party because of the actions of a few. There are enough idiots on both sides to go around.

Here's the differences:

Finances - Democrats believe that lots of people deserve a free ride even if they are completely capable of holding down a job. Republicans believe that you should be held accountable for your own choices and you should earn your own way - even if life hasn't treated you "fairly." (i.e. grew up poor, etc.)

National security - Democrats believe that you can reason with anyone...given enough time. They are very slow to stand up to bullies. Republicans believe that a show of force is the best way to keep the peace.

Basically, if you think that the government should control almost every action in your life, go Democrat. If you believe that government should be in your life absolutely as little as possible, vote Republican.

You are about to exercise to only RIGHT you will ever have in your life! Take this RIGHT very seriously, please. Do some reading, look at the track records of the candidates in your constituency, and vote for who YOU think is best. Good luck!

Ask questions, research the politicians, vote for who think is best and pray they didn't just feed you a line of s***.

you want to look at both candidates and see which one shares more of your views. pro-life/pro-choice stuff like that. if for example you have two candidates who you think are both slime buckets you can do a vote of no confidence and not vote for anyone in that race.

you just try and listen/read all the info that you can. ask as many questions as you need to completely understand what it is that they are promoting. in the end no one really has the one correct answer. good luck!

If you believe in giving welfare to useless people, allowing immigrants to come over the border and give us Ecoli when they poop on our crops, murdering unborn babies, allowing gay people to get married, and slandering Christianity, vote Democrat. If not, vote for a Republican.
