"More than 650 economists, including five winners of the Nobel Prize for economics, called Wednesday for an increase in the minimum wage, saying the value of the last increase, in 1997, has been 'fully eroded.'"

The above quote comes from the following article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061011/ap_on_bi_ge/minimum_wage

So why do Republicans still resist this? Does Bush know more than 5 Nobel Prize winning economists?

I cancelled my BT Broadband after 3 days as I was unhappy with their dreadful customer support service. I was told that if I cancelled I would be liable to pay for the whole 12 month contract! Is this lawful? I went ahead and cancelled anyway as I don't believe this is legally valid.

Just a tiny chicken and egg problem. You wouldn't make a dime of that without the government enabling you to make it.

for absolutely EVERYTHING that goes wrong?

Even though the fact remains that statistically he was known as a great president?

Does it feel good to not let the Neo-conservatives running the country take any responsibility for their actions?

Does it feel good to use Clinton as a scapegoat for everything, even though Bush has been in office for 6 years?

By putting the blame on Clinton every time something goes wrong…does it feel good because it makes Bush seem like less of a moron?

This is a HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. Answer it in a hypothetical context. I had to delete the last one because nobody got it. About two thirds said how much they hate Republicans and the other third said how much they hated Democrats.

What I'm trying to get an idea of is how many people have their own coherent ideology, and how many people blindly cling to a party without even caring why.

For example, I'm voting Democrat this fall (instead of for a third party like I usually would) because I think it's important to get the Republicans out of office before they turn us into a police state.
However, if the Democrats were doing this, then I would vote Republican in a heartbeat, because the Constitution is more important to me than the name of a Party!

I mean, ex communist countries and other countries who want to join Europe work hard to be a part of Europe and are trying to change their system. America was fighting communism with force and they managed nothing, while other countries willingly and freelly follow Europec(accepting democracy and western way of life...)

would you be willing to give up all of your petroleum consumption? it would mean short term blackouts and shortages as alternative resources are streamlined and advanced in efficiency - but it would mean no more dead U.S. troops - would you be willing to participate?

(of course this is a "black and white" type of scenario - in reality the switch over to alternatives will not be that drastic or severe)

I bought a house a year ago and a guy comes around regularly and checks the electronic water meter on the outside of the house. We got a note from our water company saying they needed to come inside and check the inside meter because the outside meter was not working. Keep in mind, it had been working for a year just fine and they had been billing us monthly about what we used to pay at our previous residence so we thought nothing was out of order. When they checked the inside meter, they said the inside is showing 400,000 gallons more than the outside meter. They said they would bill us for it. We said that we are not paying for that and there is no way we used 400,000 in a month (the last time the meter was read correctly). We do not own a pool or anything like that. They said that we would pay for it or they would shut our water off. This is crazy. Any advise? Obviously if I had the money for a lawyer, I wouldn't worry about the bill.

'internet news', 'blogs' and other news . Do you realize that because of the internet, there are countless unreliable 'news stories' exposed to you EVERYDAY?. EVERYDAY!. We didn't have to fight that. Our news wasn't perfect, but far more accurate, and we could check the sources many times.

I just recently got into pistol shooting. I was looking into buying a pistol, and currently looking at a few, and I was wondering about a accessory on the Colt Combat Commander, what the piece is called on the grips, here is a picture, it's the third picture down the page on the right http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/review/colt_combat_commander.htm I was wonderin' if you could be able to tell me what it's called, and if you can use it on other guns than the colt combat commander.
