No. The U.S. should consider any resouce available to it to not go to war. Let's remember that going to war with North Korea is no small affair. They are not Iraq, and they have nuclear weapons. Plus, with South Korea, and its fully developed modern economy, just across the border, there are huge risks to war with North Korea. Therefore, it's fine to try for multi-lateral negotiations, but if faced with an emergency, we should definitely be willing to hold bilateral talks. In fact, many would argue that we should have held bilateral talks long ago. Neoconservatism is dangerous in foreign affairs.

Absolutely not. Isolation has brought us to this point. Continued isolation is not going to suddenly improve things. Most nations would probably respond to the threat of sanctions the same way N Korea has. I am not taking their side. N Korea makes me very nervous. I just do not believe continued isolation is going to help with N Korea or Iran.

People can say what they wish about GHW Bush and Clinton but, N Korea did not test nuclear weapons until we had an administration that refused to talk to them and substituted threats instead.

North Korea, or more specifically, their Dear Leader (aka Vain Twerp), cannot be trusted. But I don't think that refusing talks with NK is the proper response. Refusing talks is unproductive and has contributed to the mess we find ourselves in now.

I think we should've taken a harder diplomatic stance a long time ago. Now it may be too late, but I think we should go through with sanctions and take our lumps if Dear Leader is actually telling the truth this time and means war.

The Whitehouse should let China handle the situation. We must remember that the North has 500,000 pieces of artillery along the DMZ, enough to take out Seoul and all of the US troops along the border. The idiot in charge of the North is crazy enough to order an attack. That would force the South into a nuclear strike against the North. A military coupe by the Northern army would be ideal, and this could be arranged by the Chinese if they would tighten down the economic screws full force. Deprive the military of its privileges and you guarantee a coupe.

No he shouldnt. Bush should do the opposite of anything he was planning to do with North Korea.
North Korea is rightly terrified that we will attack and destroy them. We named them part of the "axis of evil" speech when Bush took office. The entire country of North Korea has been raised on hating America and raised to believe that one day we will attack and destroy them.
All the US had to do to stop that testing was resume talks with them and they wouldnt do it. Do you really think they should just ignore this?
They have nuclear weapons, they have an army of a million plus, you cant just ignore them.

Bush isn't refused bi lateral talks, he is refusing unilateral talks (talks between the US and NK ONLY).

it is N korea that refuses to come to the 6 nation bilateral talks. They don't want to do that cause then they can't pressure the US to give them more aid.
This whole thing is because NK used to get more free stuff from the US when the US wanted them to behave. Kim ILL wants to renegotiate the deal cause he wants more.

Yes. If talks take place, China, South Korea and Japan should be present to pressure NK.

I just hope the Asian community will not be targeted because of this. Look at Middle Easterns, they're being stereotyped and discriminated because of 9/11.
