"More than 650 economists, including five winners of the Nobel Prize for economics, called Wednesday for an increase in the minimum wage, saying the value of the last increase, in 1997, has been 'fully eroded.'"

The above quote comes from the following article:

So why do Republicans still resist this? Does Bush know more than 5 Nobel Prize winning economists?

Because the Republican Party is the economic-elitist, Social Darwinist party. If you don't have what it takes to pull in the big bucks, then it's your lot to get whatever the employer sees fit to pay you. As lapdogs of the Money Interests, they won't do anythign their backers don't want them to do. They'll get Six Pack Charlie to vote against his economic interest by distracting him with moralistic hot button irrelevancies.

1) These economist never had real jobs. They are book worms who have no idea what it is like to run a business
2) There are just as many economists who say raising the min. age is not a good idea
3) who decides how much ou should raise it to, $8.00, $10.00, why not $50.00 - because at some point the amount would be bad for business - that is what drives our economy - business - not mellon heads who never worked

It costs jobs, it hurts the economy, and it doesn't help the people drawing the minimum wage. They will still stay on the bottom.
