This question came up in a lively, and friendly, discussion. There was no "firm" answer and I thought it would be something interesting to share with others and let them ponder this question. My group of friends even had differences of opinion as to what "Big Brother Politics" actually is. Cheers to a lively discussion!!!

Seems like the latest census showed that there were about 300K Americans now. Would you donate $1.00/year per household member to a non-profit organization that would put this money to good use in order to fight world hunger? Imagine, $300M/year to fight world hunger...

I found this really interesting wiki page describing a media phenomana known a s Missing White Woman Syndrome or MWWS. This is interesting becuase in watching the media you never really hear too much about anybody who isn't a white woman getting publisicity. Natalee Ann Holloway & Ramsey seems to be a good examples. This article never talked about why this is the case but I have this theory.

Unfortunatley in society we still view white a pure. A counterexample would be black friday, black market, black ball. All things associated with negativiety or something bad. A woman is also viewed with good light in society as being pure and niave. The combination of both makes it kind of like a "super pure". People are more concerened for the white woman's safetly disporportunatley then a black womans safety. Another good example of this was Missing White Woman Syndrome was later changed to Missing Pretty Woman Syndrome. So does this mean White = Pretty.....Hmmmm

Anyone else see the stark reality of our actions as Americans towards sanctioning North Korea. If you'll remember we did something very similar to Japan in the months before they attacked pearl harbor. this will be the next world war and if you think North Korea is a joke, all you have to do s look back in time 60 years to how weak we thought the Japs were. What are your thoughts, is this WWIII

Someone doesn't like another person on the job. The person is a bit older than the girl who who is always calling her that name. She only does it when the boss is not in the office. Actually she is rather jealous of the older woman because the older woman is really smart. The girl just plain resents her. One day it got so bad the older woman left the office and didn't come back. (She'd already told her employer about the abuse but he just told her that he "didn't want to become involved" We (the others in the office) had overheard this type of abuse for months. But the boss is denying her unemploment benefits. What should she do?

This is the law of the land and it says.

"The term 'unlawful enemy combatant' means – (i) a person who has engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its co-belligerents who is not a lawful enemy combatant (including a person who is part of the Taliban, al-Qaeda, or associated forces); or (ii) a person who, before, on, or after the date of the enactment of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, has been determined to be an unlawful enemy combatant by a Combatant Status Review Tribunal or another competent tribunal established under the authority of the president or the secretary of defense."

This means our clueless Leader can name anyone as a 'unlawful enemy combatant', even legal Americans.

The question is this, are you happy that the government can now lock you up without any court to review it, based on only the word of the governement?

There has been some contraversy at my daughters school (that she recently left) about Islamic children coming to the school. A few of the parents had noticed how these kids where very tall compared to their English kids, but never saw the need to question this. Anyway 1 of these kids confided to her English friend that she was in fact 12 yrs old. The problem being that it is a juniour and infant school. The child should have been in a secondary school. Apparently the girl confessed to her friend that she was told to say nothinng about her real age..............How could this happen??? Are birth certs for these kids not required??? How are we to know how old these children are if there is no paper work???Surely this cannot be an isolated incident....what do you think??

I'm just curious. With so much venom flying from both sides -- the extreme left and the extreme right -- is it even possible to be moderate these days?

It seems the mentality of the entire country has become, "You're either for us, or against us."

You're either a commie-socialist-terror appeasing Liberal, or you're a fascist-gun totin'-big business-anti-poor people NeoConservative.

So what about people who go on an issue-by-issue basis, who don't listen to the propoganda from both sides and go with what they believe?

For example, I'm a registered Democrat. I served in the US Military, but I do not support our current President's foreign policies. I fully believe in our Second Amendment right to bear arms, though I am never joining the NRA. I am strong against illegal immigration. I also believe it is the duty of our representative government to take care of those of us who need help through social programs.

Are there any Moderates left in the world?

We have got more and more people going to prison. Sentances are getting softer so therefore many more people must be committing crimes and/or getting caught. Should merderers and persistent sexual offenders (rapists and peadophiles) be subject to capital punishment.

"Bush Balks at Criteria for FEMA Director
Signing Statement Asserts Right to Ignore Parts of New Homeland Security Law
Saturday, October 7, 2006

President Bush reserved the right to ignore key changes in Congress's overhaul of the Federal Emergency Management Agency -- including a requirement to appoint someone with experience handling disasters as the agency's head -- in setting aside dozens of provisions contained in a major homeland security spending bill this week.
Besides objecting to Congress's list of qualifications for FEMA's director, the White House also claimed the right to edit or withhold reports to Congress by a watchdog agency within the Department of Homeland Security that is responsible for protecting Americans' personal privacy."

If he gets by with this, the next step will be to get all cabinet appointments made without congressional oversight. Hail to our king, the poster child for incompetence in government.

If so he has abandoned everything he ever claimed to believe in; he has betrayed his class, his principles and his credibility if ever he had any. He has taken on the trappings of a wealthy Tory by living in a mansion, occupying a swanky flat in central London, squelching into gas-guzzling limos, playing croquet on the lawn, flaunting the mistresses, and embarrassing his wife and family.

The list of indiscretions is without limit and yet he may end up with a title. Any suggestions as to what it could be?
