I believe intelligent people take the time to research a candidate and not just punch R or D down the line. Of course I often have too much faith in people... When we only vote a party line we tend to end up with radicals taking over the party... look at what has become of republicans. I have always considered myself staunchly independent and truth be told I strongly dislike both parties. I vote my conscience, I research what is going on in my area and I take my voting rights very seriously. I feel it is a disservice to myself and my community to blindly punch holes without the knowledge to back it up.

I have voted 3rd party, Republican and Democrat in the past. Different times/circumstances call for different things.

I live overseas - so my vote (absentee) is going to be based solely upon my impression of the candidate and what they stand for - and nothing to do with campaign ads - because I won't see any over here.

One good resource is a voter guide put out by the League of Women voters - they usually send out a questionaire to candidates for various offices, and then print the results in a brochure that you can look at - and see how candidates match up on various issues.

I don't base my vote on either....I listen to the debates and try to take advantage of the opertunties to actually meet these people...which I have got to do this year....I base my vote on the person, not the adds, or the party....I am a rep. and I have voted for a the same Senator each time he has been up for reelection...and he is a Dem.....He is just a good person...I vote Rep most of the time but there are some that I just can't vote for...especially when the Dem can't give me a good alternitive...

I don't vote by party, I vote for the candidate with the closest position on the issues to mine. I don't pay attention to the ads because most of them are just negative smear campaigns. Lately, it's been tough to find someone worth voting for. It seems you have to vote for the candidate you dislike the least.

I "vote" on the merits of the candidate, and how I feel which is the "lesser evil" of both parties running.
I try not to watch and listen to the campaign ad's that they air. They are so full of "slander & B.S." as well as the fact that both sides are equally guilty of committing the same acts, that they accuse their opponent of doing... Ex: My opponent took a $100,000.00 "kick-back"(payment) from this construction firm to pass a "Bill" to build this bridge, over in "B.F.E.!" When I only took a $10,000.00 "kick-back"(payment) to veto that same "Bill!" I'm not as "greedy" as my opponent! I'll do the same job, for less money!!! You need me in office, more than this other candidate, so Vote for: Me!!
I believe in our system, and I VOTE! It is a shame that power corrupts, and most of these "BOOBS" that have the "means" to run for office, absolutly "corrupt" the power of office, for their own "ill-gotton gain!"
As long as "We The People" exorcise our "Right" to Vote, then we can bring change to our way of Government, and we will finally bring an end to all of the corruption in our "elected officials."

No, I do not vote party. I vote for the person who has the same beliefs and morals that I do, no matter what party they belong to. A friend of my husband said he would vote straight democrat even if Al Capone was on the ticket. To me that is sad.
