I'm just curious. With so much venom flying from both sides -- the extreme left and the extreme right -- is it even possible to be moderate these days?
It seems the mentality of the entire country has become, "You're either for us, or against us."
You're either a commie-socialist-terror appeasing Liberal, or you're a fascist-gun totin'-big business-anti-poor people NeoConservative.
So what about people who go on an issue-by-issue basis, who don't listen to the propoganda from both sides and go with what they believe?
For example, I'm a registered Democrat. I served in the US Military, but I do not support our current President's foreign policies. I fully believe in our Second Amendment right to bear arms, though I am never joining the NRA. I am strong against illegal immigration. I also believe it is the duty of our representative government to take care of those of us who need help through social programs.
Are there any Moderates left in the world?

Moderates are those who still make up the majority.
they are called the SILENT majority.
As much success as divisive politics are having on our society and especially since we have a divisive leader, the majority of Americans, and especially the world, are Moderate.
And the way I define moderate is neither leaning to far to the right or the left. Someone who thinks for themselves, does not go in lockstep with a party and has views ranging from conservative to liberal and everything in between.
And yes, you are absolutely right about this, the problem with most of the people fighting is that they stick up for views that they know are faulted to the bitter end and won't admit when a certain party is wrong.
I am a conservative liberal, I have many many conservative social views, but the far-righties on this forum say I am "liberal".
The problem is that we don't know what they mean by "liberal" besides just someone who does not go along with everything the Republicans say.
"liberal" is the new commie bastard, they are an invisible enemy who if even hold one view that sounds a bit 'left' they are accused as if it were a slur. We, the moderates, (liberals) all know who we are opposing, the far-right neo-con fascists who go along with the Republicans even if the Republicans aren't even "conservative" politically anymore.

The first problem you have is you have incorrectly described conservatives.
Since I am one, I will correct the issue. There are two types of conservatives: the religious right and mainstream conservatives. The religious right gets all the bad press, while there are a lot more mainstream conservatives.
Mainstreamers believe in:
1. Small government
2. Lower taxes
3. Strong defense. Spending money to protect us and using preemptive strikes to keep our enemies from killing us. We learned once and for all after 9-11 that appeasement and negotiation does not work.
4. We are not a big business party, we defend small business and entrepreneurship. This is a big myth. Public corporations buy off both parties, not just the Republicans. We support the Fair Tax, which will help all Americans, not just one group. You assume with the Republicans are for big business the same thing that the class warfare Democrats do: government is there to serve particular need.

I agree entirely. Centrists/moderates/independents are ostracised by potential of all political events. the situation with giving us each and all the comparable call is that some moderates are the top opposites of others. What if, case in point, i develop into in help of abortion yet did no longer provide a crap appropriate to the ambience? i could be in basic terms as 'midsection' as you, yet we'd be thoroughly diverse. i do no longer think of there is a good number of an answer for us besides in basic terms reconfiguring the way politicans run for workplace entirely.

Most republicans and/or conservatives are moderates. It's just that some of the liberal democrats have gone so far to the left, it makes them appear to be off center.

Not on this site sir, you are a minority!
I am a Conservative who happens to agree with MOST things the Republican party stand for. I am STRONGLY against the things the Liberal Democrats are for and that is why I am as polarized as you say we are!
(can't think of 1 thing the libs are for that I like in the WAY they are for it).

Yes, it is still possible.
As a non-USA citizen I agree with you on the venom spurted by what I consider simple souls (like me) who find an outlet in Yahoo answers.
