helping everyone. No more relief funds for NATURAL disasters that noone has control over, no more military help when asked for it, no more money, no more anything.
How does that sound? Sounds good to me.

Part of the reason the U.S. does support people around the world is because RICH nations are expected to help poorer ones in times of crisis. The U.S. isn't the only rich nation to do so, nor is it the only one expected to help out in times of crisis. As for the U.S. government providing funds for other purposes, I believe the reason it does so is because there are strings attached. I'll help you now, but you need to help US down the road. Nothing is free.
The U.S. Government may have been the "good guy" when it helped Europe rebuild with the Marshall Plan after World War II, but something went terribly wrong. Threatening the world with a worldwide arms race in its cold war with the former Soviet Union was probably one of the first indications. Supporting despotic regimes, as long as they claimed to be anti-Soviet or anti-Communistic, was a second indication. Now that the U.S. is the remaining superpower (probably more a hyperpower), the world is discovering that what was at one time a force for good can be a force for hubris and concentration of power in too few hands. I really don't blame the rest of the world for hating the U.S. Government. I just hope they don't hate Americans, realizing that we are powerless to effect change, except for some minor changes at election time.

Problem with this is that it's not our money, is it? We're not paying much anymore in the way of taxes, and we're borrowing money from other governments to cover our debts. Not to mention our international trade agreements, where we buy services and goods from other countries, and vice versa.
To become a true isolationist entity, we'd need to seal ourselves off completely. Become self-sustaining. We don't give out money anymore, but we stop taking it in as well. No more international trade. No electronics or cars from Asia, no goods from South America, no oil from the Middle East. The goods we produce stay here...we export nothing. We put an end to ALL immigration... even legal immigration. We remove ourselves from any international treaties, and open ourselves to attack from united enemies against us. We no longer have any allies, since we've gone down the isolationist road.
To quote your original question: "How does that sound? Sounds good to me."

Sounds to me that your not very well informed. The world needs about $84 billion per year to deal with just starvation and lack of clean water. The world spends about $20 billion per year on poverty and hunger.
Congress just approved $498 billion for 2007 defense spending.
The Iraq war will cost working class tax payers $2 trillion over ten years. How has that $2 trillion helped Iraq? Most of Iraq has no electric, no water and sewer, very few kids are in schools. Hospitals are at the brink of total colapse. In Iraq over 300,000 civilians are (liberated) dead. We have 2748 of Americas bravest and best dead and over 30,000 wounded. Iraq is in Civil war now.
Afghanistan is not much better. The Taliban has returned to power in most of what they lost and opium is up 60 percent.

Compared to other countries as a proportion of GNP, we give squat in foreign aid. That's one reason why we are so resented. People in other countries think that a fat rich country should share the wealth.
Little Belgium gives more in foreign aid as a % of GNP than we do. And what does Belgium have to give? Chocolate? Brussels sprouts?
****! Getting our *** whipped by Belgium. We ought to be ashamed.

The "people around the world" are not one group of people. It's several billion people.
The ones who want our help are not the ones saying they hate us.

Isolationism has it downfalls as well. It takes a perfect balance, but right now it's way out of balance.

Ever wonder why everyone doesn't like us, just like people didn't like Germany in the 1930s.
