Do you agree that alcohol has caused more death than marijuana?
I think that it is not fare to allow alcohol to be sold Knowing it cause death not only to the people that consume but innocent people who dont drink even children.I dont think it is fare that it should be legal to sale. Now the goverment knows the issues and deaths that have been alcohol relaleted. To the point where u cant drink and drive.but its sold all day an some places 24-7.do u really agree to some point that its the drunk driver's fault when some one is killed over alcohol what about the law should it be responsible . Its like a drug dealer he puts out the drugs for instace marijuana. The law goes after the person who is feeding the drug to people and make a big deal and charge..But yet no one goes after the one who feed the alcohol to people.but charge the cosumer with D.U.I If it was not legal this person may not of caused this accident.no matter what.marijuana slow 's you down but acohol gives you black ou

This is for A.p rock
I agree about both being bad.so why not make the alcohol like marijuana and any other drug ilegal.
The only reason I used marijiana to compare it;s because no matter what is said alcohol is far more dangerus. I would of thought since alcohol has been around so long and done damage since then you think it would of been ilegal by now.
How many more death and innocent people have to die befor it stops.
marijuana has been far less more used than alcohol "right". and in that short period there has been every reason why marijuana should not be legal and does'nt even have half of the deaths that alcohol already had in the same period of time alcohol existed. Come on face it it is far worse. many people have lost family member friends dead or in prison, handicap, winos, and grieving up to date... As far as the law saying or it existing still does not make it safe

I've always wondered why they go after tobacco companies but they don't go after alcohol companies. You see these huge law suits against tobacco companies but never against alcohol companies. I don't get it. Alcohol ruins entire families. Most domestic violence is caused by alcohol. Usually if you have an alcoholic in the family that entire families life is damaged FOREVER. Many people are killed everyday by a drunk drivers and I would think that just as many people die of alcoholism and liver problems as die of cancer and smoking related issues. But no one ever brings this up. You would think that some of these sleazy lawyers would jump all over a case against big alcohol.

And yes the answer to your question is YES. I believe Alcohol has caused many more deaths than Marijuana.

Sorry, I'd use that as an argument to legalise marajuana!!! Woo hoo!

Still, I think drink driving is a HUGE problem, especially in America where cars the only way to get around in most places. I think a lot needs to be done about it- more reliable public transport, far more random stoppings by the police, I could go on- but banning alcohol is not the answer. People should be able to treat themselves to a nice tipple on occasion, even get steaming drunk if the mood strikes. Most of us can do that responsibly, we shouldn't have to lose that right because of the a**holes who can't.

Yes, alcohol has been with us much longer than marijuana.
Cars have caused more deaths than marijuana too.
But the real cause is always the user.

I do believe that alcohol causes more death than Marijuana.
Not only are there alcohol related "accidents"(the use of that word-accident is b.s.-it is not an "accident" when you knowingly get behind the wheel of a car when you are intoxicated.) But there are dieases of the liver, heart etc that are caused or aggravated by alcohol.

Marijuana IS indeed a drug- the government has not found an effective way to tax it yet. But when they do........

I do agree with you. And, you know what is sad? Some people get arrested only for smoking weed in their own home, yet in still, when someone gets a ticket for DUI, they still let that person ago-over and over again. Do you know how many times you see in the news or read in the papers how such and such was in a fatal car accident and the driver of said car who was drinking was giving God knows how many summonses before they end up killing somebody. And, the drunk driver is never killed! There have been news reports where the drunk driver had 30+ summonses and suspended license over and over and over again, yet they're out there driving. And they do not get arrested or even though about until some innocent person dies.
Yet, in still, they arrest a person who is smoking dope and minding their own business. Sad.

Sure alcohol has killed more people than weed. But remember what we got when we banned alcohol. (prohibition)? Organized crime. Organized crime funded itself by selling alcohol.
Some people say we are getting the same thing with weed. The criminals fund their enterprises with he profit from a pretty harmless vegetable and we waste time and money trying to enforce laws nobody believes in.
We could save all the money for treating people who have problems with the really bad drugs (crack, heroin) and make oodles of taxes on US government approved weed.

I work in a hospital and have seen more deaths, illnesses and injury due to alcohol then marijuana. However it is still illegal and counties can make alot of money off drug arrests.

The Prohibition argument doesn't fly. Alcohol was common, legal, and socially acceptable, THEN Prohibition came along. Weed, on the other hand, wasn't as common, and wasn't as socially acceptable when it became illegal in the U.S. in the early part of the last century.(Reefer Madness - ever see that comedy?)

Of course alcohol contributes to more deaths. It is more widely used and more widely available.

Alcohols immediate effects are more readily understood, the length of time those effects last is somewhat predictable. The same cannot be said for pot - mainly because it isn't regulated. I know how much alcohol is in my bottle of beer or that shot of 80 proof. I don't know how "good" that weed is you got. I can get you tons of it out the ditch and you'd have to burn the whole pile to catch a buzz. You might have some stuff that one bowl will put you on the couch for the rest of the night eatin cheetos and watching infomercials.

The battle for pot is social acceptance. Recreational use of alcohol is viewed as FUN. Granted, marketing has a little to do with that, but think about it. Go to the bar, knock down a few, loosen up a little. Watch Bob, who thinks he knows how to dance, or Cindy, whose blouse becomes more unbuttoned as the evening wears on - she going to show us why she thinks she needs a boob job before the night is over. Even that punk 21 year old kid who thinks he can outdrink anyone, well he's out back crawling around puking his guts out. Once he's empty, we'll pack him up and put him in bed. All of that can be viewed as funny to one extent or another.

I can have a beer at home when I get off work. I can have freinds over and have a few beers or drinks. As long as it doesn't get excessive, my kids are fine. They don't have any contact with the intoxicant.

It's different with pot. What do you do when you get high? Are you having as much fun as a group, or is it an individual contentment but you do it in a group anyway? You get a bunch of folks sitting around smoking dope, what are they doing? Sitting around smoking dope, that's it. If you light up at home or have friends over and light up a bunch, then your kids, your dog, your cat, every living thing that breaths is getting some direct exposure. I can sit right beside a non-drinker and have a beer, I can't sit right beside a non-pot smoker and light up a bowl without exposing them.

Smoking cigarettes, or tobacco of any kind, is becoming less and less socially acceptable. How are you going to get smoking weed accepted? Especially considering, that without regulation, the content of that smoke - carcinogens, poisons, intoxicants - is relatively an unknown. Unless you have grown it and processed it yourself, you can't be sure what's in that bag. What are you smoking? You can't be as sure of the answer to that question as a drinker can be to the question of what is in his drink. Again, making it less socially acceptable.

Driving high is just as bad as driving drunk. Reaction time and judgement are deliteriously affected by both.

It's an uphill battle for folks like NORML which I doubt they will ever win. However; I think that the days of some poor kid getting caught with a few doobs in his pocket for the 3rd time getting sent to prison for 30 years are going to go away.
