I put in floating food sticks and then one of the turtles goes to the bottom of the tank and just starts digging, in the same spot every night. I know their not looking for food because it is all floating at the top of the tank. What is she doing?

p.s. her/his tail is very fat and wide...

Does anyone out there have a Solomon Island Ground Boa...I noticed that mine has very rough skin and what in some places feels like bumps under the skin. Is this normal or could it have ticks or something. It was purchashed at a pet shop and to my knowledge it was not wild caught.

I just purchased a 1 yr CB Hermann's Tortoise on Saturday and he has not eaten or drank anything since we came home. All he wants to do is crawl into his hiding place and sleep, I think he's sleeping. Is this normal? Or is this adjustment behavior he is showing. If anyone has any advice on what I can do or what's going on, this new Tortoise mom would love to hear it.

I just bought my baby red ear slider and new tank with all new stuff. His tank wasn't properly set up before, no basking light. Now he has a bigger tank, basking area with heat on it and the other light, i bought a new filter that has water pouring out the side like a waterfall. Since I bought all new stuff, he hasn't gotten out of water one time to bask. He used to get out of water all of the time before. Is he just enjoying having more room and the waterfall or what? I've been waiting on him to get out and bask. It has only been 1 day, but he used to always get out pretty often.

But he ends up going on land .. Just today .. I found him lying on his stomache .. just lying there. I picked him up but he didn't move one bit .. on the land area. &Before.. he didn't even eat. What happend? I loved him cause he was calm .. and now he's gone. Does anyone know what could have happend?

I have in my pond 2 adult female sliders. I was wondering if it was okay to add my baby slider(2 inches) as well. Would there be a problem? I know other animal species will kill younger ones of there own kind, so I don't want to do it until I'm sure it'll be okay.

I was thinking about a smooth green snake. My friends just have me confused about the smooth and rough thing saying that one of them is the small thin one that fits in your hand (THE KIND THAT I WANT) and the other is one that gets as big as a python. I thought and still think the only difference is texture of the scales! I really want a snake that will stay small like that but I havent had much luck finding many that will. Does anybody know of any snakes that stay small and make good pets. Id perfer a green snake but I dont want it to get all huge on me. I think a lot of people on the web dont know what kind of snakes they are taking pictures of seeing as I have seen so many pictures of snakes that were completely wrong. I need to know what im getting or what I want at least. I really dont know what to think after my friend told me to go here> http://www.pingleton.com/field/110505/green2.JPG and seeing that as a smooth green snake. I plan on getting one ASAP so thanks 4 all your help

connected to a extension cord. The light socket is getting hot, not to the point of melting or anything like that, but it's def. hot. The bulb is 60 watts. Is it safe to leave on all night? I'm not worried about the snake getting to hot, I'm worried about the thing malfunctioning and starting a fire. I guess my question really is, is there anything special they do to heat lamp set ups?

i've had him for maybe a week, a little hatchling baby, heat is good, basking area has both UVA and UVB lamps at approx 87 to 90 degrees depending on time of day, and the water is about 85 degrees. he doesnt eat much, water PH is perfect, i have a filter and heater. i dont know what else to do. he doest really eat a lot, i'll put a pellet in and later i'll see it at the bottom of the tank. should i just put some plants in there and let him feed off of them? also, can i put plants in a fish tank with no substrate, i've never dealt with live plants, even though i kept tropical fish in a 55 gallon tank for 5 or so years i never got around to putting real plants in it. wow i talk a lot. thanks for everyone's help! :)

My husband caught two anoles and I think they are both male, even though we gave them male and female names.
They both have dewlaps, but I did hear that females can have them too.
Plus, I saw them fighting(?) one day. The supposed male was on top of the supposed female and biting his/her head. Plus, the supposed female hides all the time.
We have a 10 gallon tank for them - if they're both male, do you think they'll be okay?
