Cats work well...

I don't know of any natural snake repellents. The creatures are highly resilient. He needs to wear heavy boots and snake gaiters, which strap around his legs to protect against bites. Wearing this equipment, go through the area with a long pole or golf club to flush the critters out. You can kill them but if the area again becomes overgrown new ones will migrate there. Use long handled tools to do the clearing or a riding mower, etc. Do not attempt to handle any snake unless you are absolutely positive of what it is.

Moth balls only work in high concentrations, and do not survive rain or last long in the outdoors.

Horse apples or Osage oranges don't really work for snakes, nor does cedar, horsehair, ropes, etc.

In fact, there is NO repellent for snakes.

On the other hand, you can DISCOURAGE them by denying them shelter, food, and water. Get rid of hiding places, rubble, etc.. Patch stone walls and gaps. Work on eliminating rodents. Minimize standing water.

Or, you can bring in pigs. Cats are not big-time snake killers, but pigs are.

Not much of anything will keep a snakes away permanently, where there's food there's snakes in snake country... dogs can help...moth balls are deadly to others pets, animals & kids so not good to use them where anything else can get to them...best thing to do is to be careful & learn to live with them, they like to hide in cool dark places, especially during the heat of summer, they often only strike when feeling threatened or accidentally stepped on ( that is their nature, they know what foods are sized for them to eat )...snakes don't like you.. as much as many people don't like them..but you're not going to get rid of them all & they serve a purpose on this Earth..Be Well & TC :)

no. if there are snakes, then there's either a lot of birds, mice or frogs. cats will "hunt" all of those, but you have to be careful if it's frogs, because it can make the cat really sick. you also have to make sure that a) it's not venemous and b) it's not bigger than the cat. almost all snakes will try to stay away from people, and they keep you from having mice problems, so why do you want to get rid of them?

To keep snakes and other unwanted pests out of your house. Please don't laugh because it really works. Horse apples. The big green knobby kind, cut them in half and throw them under your house. They do not stink up the house like mothballs and they get rid of all pests from spiders to cockroaches. This really works.
