I want an easy to care for pet snake, that doesn't grow more than two or three feet. It has to be docile, and I would rather not have one that needs a regulated humidity and needs to be fed more than once or twice a week. What species is best for me?

I just had a clutch of 11 eggs hatch and all but 2 were female. Someone at a pet store told me that she heard temperature during incubation affects the sex of the corn snakes. That doesn't seem possible to me and I've never heard this before. Just wondering if anyone else knows anything factual about this topic.
Thanks

Have a 3 yr old tortoise, not sure what type he is but was wondering if it is safe for him to share his pen with a different breed of tortoise, also a young tortoise of around the same size. Had various sources telling me i can others telling me i cant due to an illness possible being passed on to each other. Any help will be appreciated.

Think about it! They:

ARE QUIET!
Don't leave big messes.
Don't have to be walked or excersized.
Can stay out in any season, rain or shine.
They eat grass and plants!
Won't run away (or if they get out of the backyard, they can't get far!)
Accesorize with any outdoor lanscaping, like rocks and shrubs.
Have no need to come indoors and probably don't want to.
They live forever if taken care of properly.
Won't attack you and the kids love em.
No toys to buy or special housing.

Cool huh? Now if I cand find one....

Another question from my friend as we're going through the snakes archive here on Yahoo Answer. What the reason why some snakes attempt to eat their own tails?

I saw a movie tonight where a guy fell into a pit full of snakes, which I'm assuming is poisonous. But as we all know, some snakes eat other snakes when they're hungry so two questions:

Q1) Is it possible to have a pit full of poisonous snakes? Or will some of them eat each other while you're waiting for some poor fellow to "drop in" and you end up with only one or two well fed snakes after some time?

Q2) Snakes rarely bite people as we're too large to digest except for the largest of constrictor snakes. Most poisonous snakes I would say couldn't eat a man. Would the snakes bit the poor fellow if he fell in but didn't make any threatening moves. Or would they just leave him alone? Any snake experts can answer these questions? Just curious, you can have fun with the answers.

I've had my python for 2 months, she is between 3 and 4 months old, I think? She is about 18 inches long, and she still hasn't ate for me. My question is; I was holding her and rubbing on her like I usually do and I felt a little lump toward the end of the tail, so I gently felt around on it and it is hard and it will move up a little and down a little. Do you think this could actually be part of the last mouse that she had? The breeder I bought her from gave me a live jumper to feed to her and she never touched it. I was then told by a friend who raises snakes that she should be given frozen and they could be fuzzies or jumpers, so I got fuzzies knowing I could feed her 2 if I had to. She didn't eat those. Petco told me once they eat live they will never eat frozen and said she should be eating pinkies at her size. I am so confused, But I am thinking if she did eat a jumper maybe it was big for her and has kept her full. What do you think think that is at the end of her tail?

I have a garter snake and just two days ago his eyes were starting to become a milky color and I thought he was about to go through his shedding period but then after a day, his eyes went back to a clear and glossy look. Im so confused on whats going on. Can someone tell me if he is going to shed or something? I would like to handle him but then I read that when snakes are about to go through their shedding period, they can be agressive and unpredictable. Help please!

I found this snake an hour ago in my garden. I live in Mexico, semi desertic region in centyral part of the country (State of Queretaro) in a neighborhood in which houses are separated by large pieces of land, some of them with tall grass, rocks. The snake is about 3 feet long and a little bit more than an inch wide. It seems to have triangular or arrowhead shaped head, no rattle. I love animals so I will not harm it, I just want to know if it is dangerous (poisonous) or not. Please see picture: www.fwg.biz/snake2.JPG or www.fwg.biz/snake1.JPG

I really want either a bearded dragon or a cockatiel. I don't know which one to get, and I want a pet that is very playful, exciting, and I would like one that I can interact with alot. Because I know that cockatiels are fun and trainable, but bearded dragons are extremely easy to handle. I need your opinion and please leave a note as to why I should choose that pet. Thnx.

I am still trying to decide before breeding my Ball Pythons whether or not I should use an incubator or just leave the eggs with the mom. Also, I have a carmel male, a 50% pied het male, a banded female, and a normal female with cool markings. Who should I breed to who?

My dog was found a box turtle yesterday, and he was chewing on him, and cracked his shell. Its not too serious, but I just wanted to know if I should take him to the vet to get checked out. Also what should I feed her? Do they like water?

My friend Kelly and I both have leopard geckos, we got them around the same time from the same place. Since we've gotten them we occasionally gecko-sit for each other when needed. Kelly's tank is difficult to transport so I usually put her gecko (Chester) in with my gecko (Kiwi) and they've never had any problems. Kelly recently went on vacation for two weeks and forgot to bring Chester by. About three days ago she popped up on MSN asking me if I could go pick him up. I intended to do it the next day, but woke up sick, so I finally just brought him home today. His tank light was off when I got to her house and he was kinda cold (that's better now, and he seems alert) . My main concern is that he appears quite bloated. I've checked him for mouth/nose mucus and labored breathing. He seems fine apart from the bloat. I put some crickets in with the two geckos but Chester won't touch them. I also put some calcium powder in a lid for him. Is he ok? If not, might he have something contagious?

I have a turle whom I just found out was a salt water turle. It's a female and I've had her for 7 years. When changing her water she stays near me and comes running to me if I wiggle my finger for her to come. She is used to me feeding her. Will she survive back in the wild? She not afraid of people but, she knows who I am.
