call it a teenager, they sexually mature in 3 to 5 years in the wild.

A baby Red-ear slider (RES for short) is about 1-2" long, and under about 1 year old.

Then it is a juvenile or a young turtle for a couple years.

At about 3 years old it begins to hit sexual maturity and is considered a young adult, even though it has a lot more growing to do.

Red-eared Sliders kept as pets generally reach sexual maturity between 2-4 years of age. In the wild, females may not mature until 5-7 years of age. Females are generally larger than males, though males have longer tails and very long front claws. The cloacal opening on female Red-eared Sliders does not extend past the edge of the shell.

The Red-eared Slider can grow up to 12 inches in length.

Your turtle is in sub-adult stage.

At 3 years, your turtle should be about 3-5 inches long. Probably not sexually mature, but definitely out of the "baby" stage. For the best information on your animal, I recommend the website kingsnake.com - You'll find everything you want to know there.

Not a hatchling anymore, but won't he ALWAYS be your baby?
