I have two guinea pigs, They are now about 7 months old and are housed together, I was told that they were both female and my sister also checked them when they were 2 months old and was under the impression that they were both femaie but tonight the larger of the two started to mount the other, It is the first time that I have seen this behaviour in all the time that I have had them, and there has been no babies in all of this time, does anyone know whether this would be normal behaviour for two same sexed piggies or have I got to resign myself to the fact that I may have to wait for 6 - 8 additions to the family????????

Does anyone have any cheap places to get travel carriers, cages, bedding, playpens, food, treats, toys, or hiding houses for hamsters?

I have some experience w/ hamsters, but I am really not sure about a couple of things w/ this particular hamster. He has the most awful smell! We are now changing his cage at least 3 times a week. He has not always had such a strong odor, but now it is crazy intense! What can be the cause and is there anything we can do to cut down on the smell? I have had alot of hamsters as a child but this is very different. A overwelmingly musty odor. He has also become VERY lazy. When we first got him he would run on his wheel for hours now he has, at the most 30 minutes of activity. What is going on? Anything would be so helpful

i think it was still born and there was only one and she was acting like herself after that so i checked on her this morning to put her into the other cage and in her nest box she has begun building another nest. I grabbed her and she still feels fat i couldnt tell much more than that because she attacked and bit me.
Is she going to have more babies?

A Sphynx cat ($600-$2000) or a Pekingese ($600-$1800)?

A sphynx cat is a hairless cat, like Mr. Bigglesworth from Austin Powers.

i know it's a little early to be thinking about, but i have 2 male gerbils, and they are littermates, so they've been together they're entire lives, but this summer my family and i are taking a vacation to washington d.c., and of course we can't take my gerbils, because of all of the times we will be away sightseeing and such, plus not knowing how trustworthy the maids are. Anyway, while i'm gone, how do i make sure they have the best possible care? Will they fight? Will they have enough food, water, chewing supplies, etc..? anybody have experience with this? what do i not do? will they remember me when i get back? anything will help!!

thanks for answering!!

Ok, I have a male rabbit that is pretty good he doesn't bite or anything. I will be getting a hamster soon (most likely female) and I was wondering how they would react together. They're not going to be sharing a cage or anything but I just want to know if they would fight or anything, like should they be kept away from eachother?

Thanks!!!

I was wondering if anyone had any information about the pros and cons of animal vaccines. I am doing a paper for school, I can find a lot about the cons but not a lot about the pros except that they protect the animal from diseases, but it is not enough to write a section on the pros. Does anyone know of any good websites with information?

Three days ago, I noticed my female mouse [that I got 6 months ago] was getting a bald spot on the back of her head. Behind her ear on the same side of that had a little dry blood. I don't think it is a mite problem, what else can it be? I haven't changed her diet recently or her type of bedding. She eats washed lettuce, dry corn, and pellets. I clean her cage every 3-4 days. Now that she is getting balder, I am changing her bedding every other day. She still runs on her wheel and eats fine, but she is scratching herself a lot. If she doesn't get better by Sunday, I am going to take her to the vet.

Thanks for the answers!!!

It's been a while, and since the last time I've browsed, I've adopted a sugar glider! I work in animal rescue, and so I couldn't let the boy go to someone who doesn't know how to properly care for him..he'd already been given up twice by two different owners (I live in a very..very rural area.) I currently have him on The Sugar Glider Exotic Diet (aka Priscilla's Diet) because it was the simplest at the time.

I just purchased 500 live mealworms (currently gutloading and burrowing in wheat germ to their hearts' content), Rep-Cal and Glider Booster Multivitamin. Now, at reading the instructions, Rep-Cal strongly recommends using Herpivite with it..my question is..do I have to buy Herpivite..or can I use the vitamin supplement I have? I'm aware that the diet I'm on doesn't specifically state the need for these items, but as a safety precaution, I'm going to use it to lace the food and insects. Please let me know about the calcium and vitamin! Thanks!
