we just got a new puppy and our other dog does not like it. Both the dogs are constantly fighting and our older dog is going potty in her cage. I don't get it does it just take some time for the two dogs to get along?

Your old dogs probably feel threatened by the new dog. They might feel like it is getting more attention than they are. I think you can go to sesions for dogs getting along, mabey traing will help. That is why when ever we are going to get a new dog, we take our other dogs to see it firswt to make sure they get along.
Hope this helps! :)

It's a complicated question and it depends on the dogs involved. Most likely your older dog was not well socialized with other dogs when it was a puppy (why puppy class is such a good thing) and now it does not like other dogs. Sometimes dogs are aggressive to other dogs of the same sex. For that reason it is often best to have one of each sex.

You don't say how long you have been working on this. In some cases, it settles down once a pack order has been established. But if they have been fighting constantly, then chances are that it is not working out. If your older dog is not neutered, neutering may help.

Territoriality. The older one is going to be mad that there's competition. It takes some time. Hopefully they'll learn to like each other after a while.

It just takes time. Your older dog is nervous that you won't love him as much anymore.

Probably because dogs have been around "man" so long! They've picked up our bad habits.
