I have two guinea pigs, They are now about 7 months old and are housed together, I was told that they were both female and my sister also checked them when they were 2 months old and was under the impression that they were both femaie but tonight the larger of the two started to mount the other, It is the first time that I have seen this behaviour in all the time that I have had them, and there has been no babies in all of this time, does anyone know whether this would be normal behaviour for two same sexed piggies or have I got to resign myself to the fact that I may have to wait for 6 - 8 additions to the family????????

If your guinea pigs were male and female you would have had new additions to the family by now! The mounting is common behaviour to establish dominance, or can just mean the she is in season.

Its just social dominance behaviour. If they were M and F, you would have known for sure before now.
