It's been a while, and since the last time I've browsed, I've adopted a sugar glider! I work in animal rescue, and so I couldn't let the boy go to someone who doesn't know how to properly care for him..he'd already been given up twice by two different owners (I live in a very..very rural area.) I currently have him on The Sugar Glider Exotic Diet (aka Priscilla's Diet) because it was the simplest at the time.

I just purchased 500 live mealworms (currently gutloading and burrowing in wheat germ to their hearts' content), Rep-Cal and Glider Booster Multivitamin. Now, at reading the instructions, Rep-Cal strongly recommends using Herpivite with it..my question is..do I have to buy Herpivite..or can I use the vitamin supplement I have? I'm aware that the diet I'm on doesn't specifically state the need for these items, but as a safety precaution, I'm going to use it to lace the food and insects. Please let me know about the calcium and vitamin! Thanks!

The sugar glider is a little over a year old, male, not obviously overweight, and he's doing very well in his new -permanent- home.

I'm also aware these supplements are for reptiles, but reading any given website or the container, the calcium is still straight calcium and can work with mammals.

I would suggest both. I've done alot of research on sugar gliders, and unless you are bringing in enough herbivite vitamins that you can give them through regular food, I suggest buying it and saving you money on the amount of food you need. Any other sugar glider information, go to the link I have below. i really trust these guys on the info they have.
Another thing. Thats not all they eat. They can eat boiled eggs, different types of fruit(don't give grapes), yogurt, a bit of turkey gerber baby food. Look it up on the site. They breed sugar gliders, and know their food very well. Sugar gliders have a complex diet, almost as complex as you and I.

Actually, I believe priscillas diet has her own vitamins, correct?? If that is correct, by adding the rep cal to insects will actually throw off the ratios. I'm no good at the diet thing, but EVERY thing I've read says stick to the diet down to the letter. Adding these vitamins can over load them on a certain mineral and be lethal. The only diet that I know of that calls for two suppliments (rep-cal and herpative) is called BML.

Again, I'm not terribly familiar with Priscillas diet, but if I remember correctly she has her own vitamin suppliment, making it a complete diet.

If you have any other concerns, or want to learn more about different diets, I would highly recommend browsing the forums at http://www.sugarglider.net - it's a very helpful community of people.

Kudos for rescuing the little guy!

Those are for reptiles only. You do not need to feed them either of them.
As for your sugar glider- their main diet should not be mealworms- just as a treat or you can cause constipation and nutritional issues. Rep cal and Herpivite are for herps (reptiles) they do not have correct nutrition for a mammal.
What you should be feeding daily is the sugar glider diet, as well as fruits and veggies. I know the ones at our zoo love applesauce, strawberries, melon, and grapes.

As for 500 meal worms- keep them in the fridge or you are going to have all beetles within a couple weeks.
