hi, I thought it was pregnant a while ago so i put it in a breeding net. the fish is fat thow and it hides behind the plants on the bottom of the tank. Its been 2 months now and theres no babies. bu when the fish goes up to eat she swims fine. and eats normally. I thought she was preg because theres a male and a female platys in the same tank. so whats wrong with her.

I have a 29 gal aquarium. I would like to purchase a co2 injector and add some plants. My main purpose is to lower my pH (currently it is 8.4 with a Kh of 300+!) and to add interest to my aquarium. Currently I have 2 neon blue Gourami's, 6 bloodfin tetra, 1 spotted catfish and one striped rafael catfish. I want to lower the ph so I can have angelfish as well. Yes, I know the tetra may get eaten, but I want to give them plenty of hiding places before adding the angel fish. Currently I have epoxy coated rock at the bottom of my tank. I have read this is not a suitable substrate for aquarium plants. So how do I change the substrate on the aquarium without stressing the fish I own? Can I layer over the rock?

Our hexagonal tank is 60 litre and I got 2 discus for my birthday. At first they were lovely together and then the male is now chomping his way through the ladies fin. Just as I was looking at ways to resolve the situation this afternoon one of the 3 guppies had approx 30 babies!(typical) They also share with ottinculas - pygmy suckermouth x2.
Anyway what should I do? I am thining about getting a new tank say 60litres for the guppy family and selling the babies when they get big but the discus? Some websites say you need 6 discus some say 1 are ok. Others say a HUGE tank others say water quality is better than size,. I have taken out the overgrowing plants this afternoon and just wanna know what to do next. My water quality is perfect I just love these fish so much.
Thanks
James

Hi, i had three fish, two pinkish translucent ones, with whiskers, and 1 that looked something like this, http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilja/56015406/
except its in orange color, the tail and lower body.
then yesterday i bought two more fish, that looked like this
http://www.flickr.com/photos/paszczak000/529359848/
when i put them in, the orange one always chases them, are they fighting? having problems? or just playing...
and all of these fish dont require heater or filter...

I just bought an aquarium and I was excited to get some fish, then I was told that I need to "cycle" the tank. I'm not too happy about putting a bunch of fish in the tank not that I know they are probably going to die. I feel so bad I almost don't want my aquarium anymore.

Is there some sort of chemical or algae that I can just buy and put in the tank instead of cycling with fish? I'm open to anything other than killing the fish.

You see, I have currently 5 tanks in my house. A 20 gallon Goldfish tank, a 2.5 gallon male betta tank, a .5 gallon female betta tank/bowl, a 6 gallon hospital tank, and a 10 gallon Tropical community tank. I feel bad for the female betta (her name is Violet, she's simply gorgeous.) in her little tank- and if it is possible I would like to move her into my ten gallon Tropical. Currently, it holds four neon tetras, and one female balloon molly. After Christmas I will be getting at least two more Balloon Mollies (two just recently passed away) and probably four more neons (I haven't been able to replace the ones that have died since I first bought them- I haven't gotten the chance). So would it be okay to put her in there? I'm not sure if she's aggressive or not... but I want her to have fun! (Yes, I am concerned about my fishes' entertainment during the day... xD ) So yeah... would that be okay?

I have a very young ryukin about an inch long and it has no hump yet. It has very nice color and when it gets bigger I think it might win some competitions some day,but it can't if it looks like it's sick!! See my goldfish has a red face on it and the gills, there regular. I don't use any water softeners or ati stress fluids. My goldfish always is just hanging on the top of the tank trying to eat the bubbles or something. I use an airator that very sufficiently supplies oxygen. There are no chemicals in the gravel I have and he only has two other tank mates. There all in a ten gallon tank. I change only about 30% of the water at a time and I do it adleast 1 time a week. His other tankmates are so lively so I'm pretty sure its not the water quality beacause then theyed all be affected ,right? Now,some parts of his body are loosing it's color and turning pink. I feed them a liitle food twice a day,but the problem goldfish isn't really that exicited about eating. What am I doing wrong????

I am looking into acquiring a small (appr.5 gallon) tank for a desktop and would like to stock it with 4-8 bumblebee gobies (Brachygobius doriae). I am thinking of using a sand substrate, numerous pieces of driftwood and numerous empty snail shells as decoration (and hiding spots to distribute any territorial issues). My question is
1. How many would be good for this sort of species tank?
2. How well do smaller brackish tanks work over time? (ie. numerous problems, nitrates spike all the time, ect)
3. What should the salinity be?
4. Anyone with exp. with this species?

Thanks for your time

I recently got two orange mollies (male & female) and they have always spent time together among the other fish. Two days ago or so, i noticed the female start staying inside of a rock more often. i thought she may be hiding, but the male tends to go in there too and just hide. once in a while, he'll come out, but only briefly. they are both in there now, and won't come out. i noticed her underbelly is lighter in color, and it's bigger. could she be pregnant?

I am setting a new aquarium for gold fish. It's 200cm x 50cm x 50cm. The gold fish i am going to have are about 5-7 months old. I also will have an aerator and i'm planning to do partial water change weekly. How many of those fish can i put in there to the maximum?

There are these little white wormy things that I noticed in the gravel today. I know there are the kinds of white wormy things that float around in your tank when you have to much nutrients/food in your tank, but these looked slightly fatter than the floating ones, and they were in the gravel. Do you think that they are parasites?
