fist, how long have they been together(they really shouldn't be)REMOVE HER-unless you have conditioned them&are seeing positive'spawning'clues..so if they are new to each other,he will be trying to protect&show power over his space(tank)he may not like her(&will keep picking on her)He may have been left to long(too old)before breeding thus doesn't know what to do(this happens with young virgins also)The bubble blowing is very hard work for them:they take a gulp of atmospheric air&roll it inside to coat each&every breath(bubble)with a special type of coating(this is what keeps them afloat&from bursting)before expelling upwards to surface.(can help to give them something to build nest under&secure bubble)so it's a long, hard process for the guy just to make.(&alot of older males just can't make the coating/bubble anymore)
THE BUBBLE NEST=a group of bubbles wrapped in a saliva coating(may be several inches across x wide)
He will always chase away female while constructing&will invite her back under when he is finished constructing nest(till then she is an intruder in his house!)
How long have they been together? They should have had a couple of weeks conditioning(ideally)if spawning has not occured by day3(maximum)remove both parties&begin again. The flaring/wiggling/chasing all normal(you will have to observe&try to pick the reason)&act accordingly.(in this case it sounds like your girl could be at risk(hurt/death)You might want to abort this mission.....Take her out&let them see each other through a jar/partition(you could even float her in jar/breeder box ect in his tank)this way he can see her but can not hurt her.
Watch&wait for the bubble nest to appear(spawning sighn)Then introduce her to him.He will act all wiggly&excited, when introduced, she will show vertical barring(on abdoman)when ready&wanting to spawn. There will again be chasing/biting(even torn finnage)This will go on until she begins to display herself to him(presenting her body in an's'form. They'll swim together nose to tail&work out how to curl ect..all this comes much later, you just need to get the conditioning/pairing/introducing&meeting stuff sorted out first. Also with your males being(old or complacent)there is a danger of your males getting really hurt/killed(girls act the same)&an un vigorous/in active/placid or even un-interested male will fell the brunt of her(femal)wrath(especially vigorous,young-ready to spawn girls)
So i would suggest you start again&go slow, observe&be patient(you should not have to manipulate them into it/should be natural)PATIENCE!!!!
I dont think this guy wants to play,ball,ha,ha-so be carfull!
Good Luck
I told you there was work involved(you can not expect to just chuck them in together&voila-babies(no,not so)
He may have blown bubbles befor, which just re-itterates that they do get" passed it"&sometimes just can't anymore(like most men, really)ha,ha
PS:feeding her on live"BLACK"worms will help her produce maximum egg count&aid birthing, also makes it easier for male to grab&wrap around her girth(if nice&big)Not too much though&only her/male will get over-loaded with protein in turn leading to obesity&swim-bladder.That's all i can think of for now.

Suggest to do more research before any breeding intention. You should keep the male betta in his own tank, not advisable with other fish, definitely not with another male and not with a female unless ready for breeding. Introduce the female only when her belly is slightly swollen and when develops stripes on her body. The male must have already built his bubble nest. Make sure BOTH male & female bettas are ready before putting the female in. After the spawning is completed (up to about a few hours), remove the female and leave the male to guard the nest with the eggs. Hatching occurs about 48 hours after mating. Remove the male. The fry are free swimming after 3-4 days. Feed on fry food first, then powdered flake & brine shrimp. Use gentle filtration & water changes every few days. After about 2 months or when young males can be identified, remove them to prevent fighting.

Take out the female immediately and put it into a different tank
they won't breed with each other unless the female is full of eggs which takes at least 2 weeks to accomplish
you need to condition them for at least 2 weeks separately from each other on havy protein food
Here is an article for you to read up on how to breed bettas properly

Hope that helps
good luck

He's defending his territory. The female is an invader. He'll kill her.
This is why I advise people to keep male bettas alone in a seperate tank to any other fish. I would love a male betta, but I just don't have the tank spare to keep him in.

you should take the female out and put her in a bag or cup that it came in....then turn off the filter if you have one. and if there is other fishes take them out.....the put the cup or bag in the tank and face it so that the male and female are looking......then wait.....after a 30min- 1 hour go check them out...if the female has lines on her body.....that are very dark...then they are ready......put lots of hiding spots and then realese the female. the male should keep flaring and will eventually start making his bubblenest. it takes 3-7 hours so do not be in a hurry

You should only keep male figthers with females for breeding purposes. When they are finished you need to separate them. The male is aggressive to females, males and any other colourful and long tailed/finned fish. Take her out asap

if your male thinks the female wont breed with him he will kill her or if he thinks the females a male he will kill her the way you breed them is take you bowl/ tank, leave them in the drak for a week dont feed them much. he might breed or kill her. they are hard to breed.
