Fish - October 2006

just this morning i found out that one of my pet goldfish's tail (only half of it) was bitten off. it can still swim a bit though. i can see a bit of it's flesh and it's eyes turned off-colour . it's sides has some bruises too and i'm sure it's dying. what should i do? no doubt that the other goldfish in the tank has done this. they have been living peacefully together for more than a year now and how could something like this happen? i remember the same thing happened to my cousin's goldfish . why could have caused this sudden behaviour in goldfishes? by the way my goldfish and my cousin's are the slim kind not the podgy ones

Well, there are three tanks for bettas that I really can't decide on.

ok i got fish like a month ago from walmart they are in very good condition. now im planning to get some more from petco because walmart barely has any is this ok to mix petco fish with walmart fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

My betta needs a new tank now. Can you give me the website where you find the tank? It needs to be found somewhere at Petco.com. Can you give me the exact.... what's it called? Well, it needs to be 1/2 to 1 1/2 gallons, and must be about 7$ to 15$. It should include plants and gravel, but if it doesn't, it's okay. I want it to be something you've had, so I can know it'll be good... but if it doesn't, that's okay, too.

Which method is better? 1 inch of fish per gallon of water or 1 inch of fish per 12 square inches of surface area? I've heard both and I just wanted to know what you guys thought.

My 2 fish had ich disease and died before I caught it. I want to make sure the tank is clean before I put more fish in it. I heard heating it up and running the filter would work. Will it?! Any advice???

i have a male Betta fish. Since we got this fish as present, we don't have a tank to put it in so it is in a 4 gallon glass bowl. I live near San Jose and it's starting to get pretty cold around here. I've read in many places that Betta fish don't like being cold, but i don't know how to keep the water warm without having to buy a tank. We aren't planing to buy more fish so i wouldn't buy a tank anyways. Any ideas on how to keep it warm?

I have in a ten gallon tank. 1 male betta, 1 female betta, 3 cory catfish, 5 neon tetras and 15 ghost shrimp at any given time. I have about 13 live plants, a large piece of coral, and small drift wood. The fish are never crowded, shrimp keep the place clean. catfish eat what the others miss. and my plants balance nitrogen fairly well.. I have read all these posts that you can not put a male and a felmale together. MIne never seem to fight. swim in close proximitry to one another. Mate, (although the eggs never seem hatch just disapear) they swim togethor.

With all this talk to males beign so aggresive. The only thing aggresive he seems to do is knock the snails off of the plants. (buts thats just ammusing)
