Yes it means he is waiting for a mate, male betas will take the eggs from the female and put them in his bubble nest. As soon as this takes place you need to get the female out of the tank or he will kill her. The difference is the female is not brightly colored and has shorter fins. You can keep a beta in a community tank with other community fish and he will be fine.

Yes beta fish do fight with each other but not physically-Just verbally-That's why you have bubbles above the tank-Or maybe "bubbles" is his girlfriend.Oh whatever(lol)You'll be able to tell them apart when they start doing the "Beta Boogaloo" thingy-Like you know-Beta-Boy on top and Beta-Chick underneath. But if they are doing the 69 then I guess you'll never know.LMAO

If your fish has long flowing fins, it' s a boy. You can tell when they're ready to mate because the male will make bubbles to get the females attention and the female will show verticle stripes on her body. The best place to find out information on breeding is on bettatalk.com. Faith has been breeding them for years and anything you want to know about bettas you will find here.

The female beta fish doesn't have the beautiful fins that the male does. I males fight with other males not the females.

Females have smaller fins. The easiest way is to go to the pet store and ask, they will show you a female.
Yes, males and females will fight and hurt each other. You have to know how to tell when they are ready to mate and give the girl lots of hiding spots.
Please read up on breeding bettas. It's more complex than you think.
This site has lots of betta info. www.bettysplendens.com
Good luck

The pretty ones with the nice tail are the males.... the little ones with a very little tail is the girl.... they fight with other males, defending their territory....
Mating is complicated.....
The male makes them bubbles... then the female lays the eggs on them .... then the male holds the eggs in his mouth until they are ready to survive. Its pretty sure that the female will come out with a few bruces.....

Maybe your beta just has gas.
How can you tell a girl beta from a boy?
As long as they can tell the difference, that's all that matters, right?
