Fish - September 2006

My Swordtail had her babies She was spinning around the tank like crazy early this morning. I figured she was having them. I went out for a little bit and when I came home there were fry There are three that I can see at the moment. Please look at the following link and look at Swordtail tank. Thats what the fry and mom are in. Also I have an under gravel filter and a whisper filter at the top. Should both be ok to run or should I turn the wisper off? I don't want the babies to get sucked in to anything. Any advice would be great.

im just wondering, because im planning to get a female betta, because my male betta is making a bubble nest, but i wont know when a female betta is ready to lay her eggs in the nest. and do i feed them while there separated? i mean when i put a divider thats clear in between the tank and they see each other for a few daws or two.

I have 2 male and 2 female in my tank ,the main male has fertilised about 1000 eggs in the past 6 months and apart from 7 i have rescued in a seperate tank only 1 has survived,a real cutie who must have hidden untill big enough to appear and is now swimming free .now thats what i call nature.but what gave that one fish the fight for survival,

He's only a baby, maybe 2 inches long, and I've had him about 1 week. The fish store sold us these flakes for him to eat for now, and when he gets bigger, he will get pellets and shrimp. But he always acts hungry, when I walk by he swims over to me and goes to the top for food. Do you think I can give him little tiny bread balls, or is he too young? This is the first fish I've ever had, and I don't want to hurt him.

Do guppys breed with other fish in the tank as well as them?whats the diffrence between fancy guppys and feeder guppys? Should you have floating vegitation at the top of the tank or large rocks at the bottom for the babies to hide in? or should I consider a breeding container?

I recently bought my son 2 new small goldfish to keep his large 8 year old fish company and 1 of them has disappeared - the other one was dead in the corner of the tank looking rather grusome, missing a fair amount of flesh........ The small guys were about 2 inches long so too big to be an accidental mouthful! Has anybody else had this happen?

I'm planning on getting maybe a 15 gallon or 20 gallon tank, and I just wanted to know which filter do you recommend. I was thinking of getting a - Penn Plax Cascade 80 Power Filter, Tetra Whisper Power Filter 20 or a Marineland Penguin 100B Power Filter. I like the idea of a filter looking sort of like a "waterfall". If I get one of these filters will I need a powerhead or an air pump?? What are those for anyways? And what kind of heater will I need for a freshwater setup?? I'm planning on getting 6 neon tetras, 2 dwarf gourami, 2 otocinlus affinis, and 3 Harlequin Rasbora (and if everything goes well for them I'll add 2-3 more rasboras). THANK YOU EVERYONE IN ADVANCE.

The guppy just had 7 fry and will it have anymore it has been 24hours since she had them should i take her out of the breader. ok my tiger barbs dave and skynyrd died;ast week because of fin rot..or was it Lynyrd nipping at their fins? i belive it was Lynyrd nipping their fins causing stress which made it worse.. so, i got a placo (algae eater) and a red eyed tetra... when i woke up this morning, the tetra's fins looked like they had been nipped..now, it doesnt look too bad, but it will get worse.. is there any way to quarantine Lynyrd, my tiger barb/tank bully, in the same tank, like with a net or divider or something??cause i cant afford another tank just for him.. i might give him to my friend.. my friend has like generec 1 and a half inch community fish, i dont know wat kind though, he doesnt know either, sorry if that restricts an answer... any answers welcome
