Yes, it's normal. First of all are you feeding them Betta pelletts? If you are, I found out that most Bettas don't like pelletts they prefer Freeze Dried Worms. You can get them at any pet store usually 5$. And only feed your fish a pinch, because the reason why your tank is getting dirty is because it doesn't like what your feeding it and that's building up in the tank and causing it to get very messy. If you're not feeding your fish pelletts then get back to me and I can help you:)

Good Luck:)

don't know much about beta's but thought it might be helpful to know that if they start moving real slowly and sticking around the bottom of tank more it means they are sick...its odd cause unlike other fish when beta's die they go to the bottom where as others float to top....anyways if you think anything is strange with your beta the place you got it at can be helpful if they are not then any petstore may be able to help you cause believe it or not they have treatments/medicines for little fish too that would make them healthy again....do a google search for beta's you may be surprised what you could find out

Try buying new fish food. Also, having more than one Betta fish in one bowl could be the problem too. If the are in separate bowls, keep them so far apart they can't see each other. if that doesn't help then i suggest going to the pet store. Good luck!

Yes. Beta fish live in rice paddies, and other dirty water ways, like swamps. Beta usually eat by pulling in the food, and spitting it out a few times to make sure it is good. when thy pull in the food, they eat a little and spit the rest out.

Yes it is normal. Fish do that all the time. You could try feeding him smaller food particles which are easy to take in.Fish are tiny, its sometimes hard for them to take in a big piece of food.

Betta's require very little food, break the food into smaller pieces and only feed them when they are hungry (they learn to beg very quickly when they are hungry.

Yeah, that is how they eat it. I think it is because they are meat eaters, they sort of like to feel like they are working for, or attacking it a bit.
Try getting a bigger tank. It won't get as dirty so fast. You could get one with a pump.
