Are you talking about the long plastic tube attached to a bigger plastic tube? To vacuum out the tank to clean the water and under the gravel? If so, you need to put the big end in the water, and put the hose end lower than the water level over a bucket. You then need to suck out all the air in the hose, it's icky, try not to get any in your mouth, and let it drain into the bucket. Stir up the gravel with the big end and remember to remove fish that could get sucked up before doing this.

I'm assuming you mean a siphon. First you need to hold it entirely underwater so that there is no air anywhere in it. Plug your finger over the small end of the long tube, take that part out of the water (leaving the other part in the water and completely filled with water), and with the small end, put it over a bucket or container to let the water drain (outside of the aquarium). Your container and tube needs to be lower than the wide end of the siphon for the water to start flowing. Release your finger and it should start sucking up water. Don't suck up any fish! Use the big end to get into the rocks and you can watch all the dirt fly away!

There should be a larger end on the hose and a smaller end. You need to make sure the smaller end of the tubing is lower than the larger end.

Get a large bucket, place it on the floor and put the smaller end of the tubing inside it as close to the bottom as you can. Take the larger end of the tube and place it in the water and allow it to fill with water. When it is full, put it into the rocks, and this will create a vacuum effect and suck out all the garbage from the gravel or rocks.

There are 3 ways. (easiest to hardest)

1)Put the wide end into the tank. Let it fill with water. Then push it into the gravel and force gravel into the tube. Get a bunch in there, and then raise it up. The gravel should fall out, and water will start flowing.

2)Put the wide end into the tank. Let it fill with water. Suck on the other end until water starts flowing.

3)Put the wide end into the tank. Let it fill with water. Lift it up, and start the water flowing. Rapidly put the wide end back into the tank.
