ok my tiger barbs dave and skynyrd died;ast week because of fin rot..or was it Lynyrd nipping at their fins? i belive it was Lynyrd nipping their fins causing stress which made it worse.. so, i got a placo (algae eater) and a red eyed tetra... when i woke up this morning, the tetra's fins looked like they had been nipped..now, it doesnt look too bad, but it will get worse.. is there any way to quarantine Lynyrd, my tiger barb/tank bully, in the same tank, like with a net or divider or something??cause i cant afford another tank just for him.. i might give him to my friend.. my friend has like generec 1 and a half inch community fish, i dont know wat kind though, he doesnt know either, sorry if that restricts an answer... any answers welcome

Sorry to say but Tiger Barbs are well known fin nippers. There is not allot of fish you Can put with them. If you get a fish to put with them they have to be faster and the less fin that sticks out the better. Tiger barbs are very aggressive fish so get a fish that has the same amount of aggressiveness and around the same size, not smaller. Try gourmai's or cichlids, they are just as aggressive.
I run the pet department at a local retailer and I don't put anything with my barbs except pleco's, snails and a few other faster algae eaters.

Tiger barbs are generally peaceful fish but they CAN nip fins. This may happen either because its stressed and it needs a bigger tank or needs more of its kind. They need to be in groups of 4 or more. Or it could be the nitrate level in the tank. The barb maybe trying to damage the slimy covering on the body of the other fish so thay they catch infection and die, thus reducing the nitrate level in the tank naturally.

It may be fin rot and not fin nipping at all. Add some salt for freshwater aquariums to help deal with th rot, prevent further infections and speed healing. You can buy fish tank dividers if you really want to, but I find that a lot of decorations and more fish will help solve the problems as well.
