my cichlid has babies in her mouth and she has been holding them for about 16-19 days. I can see the babies in her mouth as she cannot close it entirely. Just wondering when I should expect her to spit them out. They are already moving around in her mouth. I have heard that they hold them for about 16-20 days.

I have a fish that looks just like a convict fish but it is silver and turns a silver blue color when it gets bigger. They are aggressive fish and are very teritorial. I believe it is called a tilapa something but I can't remember the rest.

I have two fishtanks, I understand that the fish I make sure I ask for community fishes but as soon as they are put in the tank they start to attack each other. I even make sure that the fish come from the same tank of the pet shop, they don't fight there. Why do they fight at home? What can I do? How can I prevent this?

I have a 55 gallon tank with 10inch oscar and a 4 inch catfish. The tank bottom has black sand (from a pet store) and I'm struggling with the oscars poop. I have 3 overhanging filters and have their siphon tubes extended near the tank bottom-but still the oscar poop alwas gathers in the corner.

can someone recommend a filter for having sand ? I use a siphon gravel hose once a week, but would also would like a better filtration system. IDEAS?

I've a 50 litre tank with adequate filtration and originally four small fancies in (now only 2 remain a black moor and choc oranda). I've been keeping fish for quite a while now and so was surprised when my other fish died. They showed no outward signs only listing on one side yet with normal bouyancy, therefore ruling out swimbladder. I have put a tonic in the water and this seems to help although particulary the black moor quickly deteriorates again. The choc oranda seems fine except will lie in the bottom corner occasionally. I've had a few suggestions given one being to slightly increase the water temperature, or keep it constant to avoid stress. The water has been tested and all levels of ammonia etc are fine. Has anyone any ideas i'm a bit lost on this problem? Thanks

I had heard to start with the small fish to cycle your tank, then to add the bigger fish later. But the lady at petco, said that you can't add bigger fish because then the ones that are already there will try and establish dominance. So what do i get first the 3 little platys or the 2 bigger gouramis?
and is 3 platy's (2inch) and 2 guoramis (dwarf, 3 inch) to many fish for a 12 gallon tank?

One of my guppies was on the bottom of the tank this morning, very much alive, but seemingly unable to swim. I came home on my lunch break and he is still on the bottom and keeps thrusting in to the water, only to sink again.

he doesn't seem bloated at all and his fins don't appear damaged (although it's hard to tell with him sitting on the bottom)

He is about a year old, so it may be he is just old, but i've never seen this before, and he is very energetic and healthy looking, only he can't swim.

Hi I'm a fairly experienced fish owner who has a 29 gallon aquarium. I keep the temperature at a constant 75 degrees F and I have a good filter that I keep the filter cartridge changed consistently. I do monthly 25% water changes when i syphon. I also have an air bubbler for extra oxygen and I keep several healthy aquarium plants. All my levels are normal (nitrate, nitrite, PH, ammonia) but every few months I seem to lose a fish to popeye! It's only one fish that gets it (and eventually dies) ever 2 months or so and the medicine doesn't work even though I take out my carbon!! I don't know what else to do. Overall I've lost 2 german rams and now discovered my dalmatian platy has it so bad he looks like a telescope goldfish!

I'm at my wits end. My angel fish is my biggest and oldest fish and has never shown signs of illness, but he doesn't pick on my other fish so i don't think he's stressing them.

heeeeelp
