First, buy a razor glass scraper from a paint department (or a dollar store) to get the worst of it off. The use CLR but you have to soak a paper towel in the stuff, lay it on the glass and cover that with plastic as many of the chemicals evaporate right away making it useless. wait over night then do another side. When you are done, rune a hose in the tank for half an hour to get the rest of the chemicals out.

Razor blade scraper. The kind you buy at the hardware store. Other option is from the kitchen department. They sell these things that look identical to the scraper above, but don't have a sharp blade and are a bit more rugged. I think they are for cleaning counter tops and such.

vinegar gets muck, and algea off pretty well. To tell the honest truth, I usually use pickle juice, it really works. Like my dogs for instance they have big 5 gallon water buckets, that we get from old restaurants, because they use to contain pickles which gets rid of algea and prevents new algea from growing.

Try letting it soak in vinegar then scrub it and rinse it several times. I use it to clean almost everything in my house (including all my animal cages) since I'm allergic to many cleaners.

Put them out side and fill them with water. Let them soak over night and then scrub them. It will come off much easier.
