because they have gils which allows them to only breathe insideof water. you need lungs to breathe air.

They suffocate. Fish are adapted to extract oxygen from water (through the gills), not directly from the air (which requires lungs).

they breath oxygen in the water and when they are out of the water there is no oxygen for them and they die, it's like holding your head underwater for a very long time, you die, same thing only reversed.
