Fish - July 2006

Does anyone have any ideas? He was fine earlier, and now all of a sudden his big pretty tail on his butt is less than half its original size!! I watched his behavior and he was turning sideways to reach back and snip at his own pretty tail!! What could it be??? How can I stop him? And will his tail ever grow back??

Almost every time I clean him which is about once a week after he sits in the water it seems like he begins to die. He will float at the surface and seem to begin to turn over on his side like he is dying. after about a full day of making me believe he is going to die all of a sudden he is fine. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or what is wrong with him would be appreciated

He lost his dorsal fin and looks a little beat up but is still swimming and eating well just a little wobbly. Will his fin grow back?

this is for a 20 gallon freshwater tank with a couple of goldfish. I have been using a regular 15W light bulb but the whole socket, etc. broke and I'm wondering if I should replace it with a fluorescent bulb or just keep it as a regular light bulb. Thank you!

What fish should I get? I want a kind of fish that only swims at the bottom...a kind of fish that only swims in the middle (i think i will get angelfish for the middle) and a kind of fish that only stays on the top? What fish should I get?

i have recently noticed a new lifeform in my tank.they look like little semi- rounded blobs of goo.in thier center, or just off, they have what looks like a small black nucleus, or mouth.thier coloration is smokey white.are they harmful to my tank and the corals that exist there?

The tank is clean and has a filter. We use distilled water. We also put in extra water conditioner.
