they appear motion-less and have no visible tentacles.my tank has been established for about three years.28 lbs of live rock, 26lbs of live sand. another 15 lbs of rubble.to me they seem to be a sea squirt or something similar, that is what i thought anyhow.is that possible?

Sound like some kind of anemone but am not certain. Some of them can be parasitic. Hopefully you bought the corals and live rock from a trusted source or you could have other troubles as well, like bristle worms that grow very long and eat all the in-vertebrae when the light is off. Please relay some more information and maybe I can give a better answer. How long have you had the marine tank established?
