I have a 10,000 gallon pond in my backyard with koi. They've been breeding in the Spring every year, even though it was never my intention on breeding them. You need some type of floating plantwork for them to lay the eggs in. Koi will consume their own eggs, so you will need to remove the eggs as soon as you notice them. Generally, you need your fish to be minimum 18 inches or greater. Your water quality must be good, and your fish must be well fed. Malnourished koi will not breed.

'Professional' operations, they'll take a male and female, place them into a holding tank that's 750 gallons +. The tank will have floating items that the eggs will stick to, and the tank will be covered to prevent the fish from jumping out.

i used to,you need a good filter system to clean the water and a UV filter to kill any green water(algae). your pond wants to be about 3ft+ with a shelve and a couple of water Lily's as cover. if you need any more help go into a water garden centre but be careful as they will try to sell you stuff you don't need or the most expensive.
