He lost his dorsal fin and looks a little beat up but is still swimming and eating well just a little wobbly. Will his fin grow back?

Use a gravel washer or siphon hose next time to change 1/4th of the water so you won't have to drain all of the water out of the tank. This way you don't have to move your poor goldfish. If he is in a bowl, try to get a fish tank.
Are there still bones on his fin? Fins do grow back, but only if the bones which form the rays of the fin are still there. Add 1 teaspoon of fish salt or rock salt, not table salt for every 5 gallons of water. This will stimulate his slime coating and cut down on the bad bacteria that could harm him. You might have to get some antibiotics from the pet store if you see red streaks by his wound, or if the spot gets fungus, which will look like cotton.

Don't give up hope, because your fish wants to live.

i have a friend who had a blackmoor that had one eye then it lost the other eye when the tank was being cleaned ..then a few months later a small eel was put in the tank by mistake and the eel ate half of the fish's face( sorry gross but true) the fish survived and kept happily swimming and eating for a long time afterwards even tho its head was half missing it still had its gills and it still had a mouth that it could open and close its black scales even grew over the damaged tissue .....fish are very tough little creatures and you shouldn't worry too much about yours..i hope it lives a long life

He can probably adapt. To prevent a secondary infection, add some stress coat (which has aloe) and a fish product with tea tree oil like Mela Fix. They are both inexpensive and will not hurt to add to the tank. I don't know how he got hurt, but a lot of people remove their fish while cleaning, be sure never to do that. Good luck.

He's a "Marine" critter, he will overcome, adapt, or he'll damn sure learn to improvise; and he'll live a normal life afterwards. Seriously.
