It's extremely rare that a fish will not eat it's own offspring. Even initially attentive parents like betas, or the various mouth brooders will start snacking once their offspring are on their own. You should research the breeding habits of the fish you have to know when to separate them.

Fish do that, it is natural. But if you want to prevent your baby fish from getting eaten, you can buy a tank seperator at your local fish store. You can then separate your baby fish from the older ones until they are big enough to fend for themselves.

its probably just a good idea that you just seperate the fish so that you don't have to deal with that. cuz that really is odd. keep them in seperate tanks. permanently. if you think that the mom is going to eat the baby

I would seperate them also. And i also stress to check witch fish are able to be together before you buy them. If in doubt ask at the place where you purchase them or check on line.

check out the background on ur fish. i work at an aquarium. depending on what kind of fish it is, it might eat its offspring once they r born. use a fine mesh to separate them.
