I need to know how many times a day I give my dog the Metacam. I can not find the box with the instructions. My vet is closed for the holidays and my poor dog's back leg is acting up.

can't train this dog to save my life...she is an 11 week beagle. She goes to the door and makes her potty outside (sometimes she goes 2 or 3 times), but then comes inside the house and goes right in front of me. I know they have short attention spans, etc., but I feel like I should be doing something more. HELP...all advice appreciated!

My dog found her way into some bread that was wrapped by aluminum foil. I came across her eating it with aluminum bits spread out all of the floor. She probably swallowed some bits. What should I do?

I started making my own dog food after just finding out that Iams canned dog food almost killed one of my dogs. It was like she was being poisoned.

I would like a list of vegetables that are good for dogs. So far I have used frozen peas, fresh shredded carrots and frozen green beans. Any other veggies I can incorporate with the meat?

Ok I have a dog, he's a German Shepherd and Mastiff mix and he's about 4-5 years old. I saved him from being put in the pound this passed August 2007.

When I picked him up I talked with his previous owner for a good 20 minutes and she insured me that he was an outside dog (since that's what I was looking for) who just has too much energy and since she was going through a bad divorce she's couldn't keep him.

So he came home and the first month went by smoothly, but ever since its just been terrible! He whines, yelps, scratches at the back door just cuz he wants to get inside the house and he CAN'T come in. He's way too big to be an indoor dog.

In October 2007 he ran away 4 times and I ended up having to pay to get him out of the pound one of those four times. He ran away yesterday, but thank goodness I put tags on him and my neighbor alerted me that he was in they're yard.

I walk him at least 3 times a week and I play with him everyday, but that doesn't stop his whining.

What is the earliest age? Also, do you recommend an oral monthly pill..what has worked best in your experience? OTC or from a vet?

well have a small lap dog that bites.and hes not playing either!!i have 4 kids and he has already bit my 4 yr old daughter once.and i walked up to him the other day and he bit me and drew blood.and im not talking about a scratch.just walking by him,no matter who it is he will charge at you,try to bite.well we gave it away to some one who didnt have kids.it didnt last more thatn 2 days and the person brought the dog back cause of its biting.well we got it from some one and when we found out it bit we went to give it back and the person just fell off the face of the earth.so i was talking to a friend and told him the story.he said bring it to the dog pound.i said well what if they dont take it.can i uthanize it myself?he said no,its animal cruelty,i could get arrested.but how this is a dangerous animal.i wont try to give it to any one in fear of being sued.im lucky the ither person didnt try after it bit her.so do you think they will take the dog.what should i do?

two days ago, our dog gave birth to 5 cute puppies, as i have observed, the puppies are always sleeping and not taking or sucking milk from their mom. i wonder if its normal or there must be a vaccine for them to survive all 5 of them. what must i do the traditional way if there is any, the breed of our dog is actually mixed and i dont know what kind it is. all i want is for them to be alive and kicking. thanks.

We have an older dog 14 years old - we have a doggie door to the outside - she is now starting to do her business inside.. She seemed to do this if we left for the weekend (I think to show she was upset) but nows she's doing it when we are home during the night. She's also starting to do her business inside if we are late getting home at night from work. Any ideas as to what we should do? or what's happening?

Thanks

I know feeding dogs from raised feeders causes bloat but I've always wondered why. I mean, we humans eat when we're standing straight up and it doesn't seem to cause us harm. Why is it different with dogs?

Also, do other factors cause diseases? i.e. not neutering results in testicular cancer, not spaying bitches results in mammary tumors, you get the picture. My family owns one dog at the moment and so far it seems my dad controls EVERYTHING (that's why he doesn't eat a raw food yet-if it were my choice be assured he would!) but when I have control over my future pets' lives, I want to know what kind of factors they should live in to keep them healthy and free of diseases (such as bloat).

So, to sum it up-
1) Why does raised feeding cause bloat?
and
2) Do other factors also cause diseases in dogs?

Thanks in advance for any info given!

well I feed my dog Innova because that's my personal choice. But I have nothing against people who feed their dog Purina or Science Diet. I mean who cares what people feed their pets as long as they are feeding them? I have watched Animal Cops on animal planet and some of the dogs on that show make me cry because their owners starved them. I just think it's bizarre that people freak out over what others feed their pets.

First, thanks for all the answers to my last question. But, now I have even more. I live in a rural area were most people sell registered dogs for money not blood line so i think i screwed up there. so, could someone explain in detail what a registered dog is and the importance, and what is pedigree?
the pomeranian is a parti-brindle , but her face is half white, half brown would that disqualify her from shows.
I called our kennel club and they aren't picky but they might be later if she's a good show dog.
I would take all the info I can get. I could look at the AKC online but it's alot of reading to get a little information.
Is there a way to tell what the dogs parents blood line is ?

Of course, it's impossible to say with 100 percent certainty if any such dog is a purebred, but many are much easier to identify than others.

So, are there any breeds that are nearly impossible to identify without a pedigree or else breeds that look so similar to other breeds that it's usually misidentified by shelters, vets, etc.?

For example, I saw a dog at the shelter that was labeled Poodle mix, but I had a suspicion it was a rarer breed. I took a picture and sent it to purebred rescue and found out it was indeed a Puli. If this dog were brushed and clipped like a Poodle it would be very difficult to any but the most experienced to say that it's actually a Puli not a Poodle.

I asked a similar question before, but now I'm hoping to get feedback from shelter workers and rescues.

I took him to the vet about a week ago and he was weighed at 52 lbs. I was just wondering what his adult weight will be. I did research the breed and I know that his adult weight could be anywhere between 75-130 lbs. But I was just wondering, given his current weight and age, what his adult weight would be? I've tried looking for weight charts, but I haven't found any.

I got a Yorki-Poo a few nights ago, since then she hasn't eaten anything. She has been drinking plenty of water. I forced fed her some milk replacements I bought at petsmart which she seemed to like. I was wonderingi if I should maybe try wet dog food. The guy I bought her from gave me a puppy pack which cotained Royal Canin 33 but she won't even go near it. I don't think he was paying attention to her enough to even see if she was eating. He is a breeder so he has a lot of dogs. He did give me medicine for her stomach that was supposed to help her stop vomiting. She did vomit about 7 times yesterday so I started giving her the medicine and she has been fine since then with vomiting. She had diarreah all day yesterday but finally had a solid bowel movement lastnight but then turned around and ate it. I was wondering if there is something I could do to stop that? I basically have no idea what to do. I can't get her into the vet until the 28th so any advice that anyone has would be great
