Chocolate labs are odd, they often have behavioral problems, hip problems, skin, weight, etc. Not sure why they are so much more affected than other colors, but they usually are.

Labs are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as having eye problems, kidney problems, and being prone to certain cancers.

As far as color variations, no matter what anyone tells you there is no difference in behavior or health between different colors of labradors. Many, many people will say that blacks are not as good of a dog as chocolates or yellows. Others (like someone above) will say that chocolates have more behavior problems and are weirder than blacks and yellows. Completely not true.

Ask him. He may have seem some behavior problems or joint problems in some of the chocolates that have come in, but chocolate labs do not always have problems. Especially if the breeder is breeding to standard. Someone breeding just for the chocolate color could bring out some recessive problems. Just be sure to ask the breeder about health problems and get references from other owners that have purchased from them.

Many large dog breeds have some predisposition to joint problems and other health problems but not chocolate labs specifically and certainly not all of them do. I have no idea what your vet is talking about - you should get him to clarify what he meant.
