can't train this dog to save my life...she is an 11 week beagle. She goes to the door and makes her potty outside (sometimes she goes 2 or 3 times), but then comes inside the house and goes right in front of me. I know they have short attention spans, etc., but I feel like I should be doing something more. HELP...all advice appreciated!

I have an 8 month old Beagle, and it took him sooooo long to be housetrained. I still don't trust him 100 %, but he's almost there. All dogs are different, but Beagles are stubborn as hell. All you can do is to just watch her like a hawk whenever she's in the house, and if you see her having an accident say NO and take her outside right away, then praise her for it. All it'll take is time...I was losing all hope of my dog ever letting me know when he had to go outside, but it's a few months now that he's started letting me know. I know how frustrating it is...Just be patient and wait for your pup to mature and learn! She's only a baby, it's take many weeks and even months for her to be completely housetrained. Don't lose hope, you're not alone!

At 11 weeks old don't expect too much. If you're just putting her outside that won't work, she may be peeing but not understanding you want her to pee outside unless you're there to praise her. And, if she does it right of front of you, say, No calmly, scoop her up immediately and take her outside even though it might be too late. The training takes a lot of time and patience so you'd better take a deep breath because you may still have a few more months before she's trained. By the way, she may have a urinary tract infection which will not go away without meds. Have her vet checked.

You can always try puppy training classes - some are just for house training and fairly cheap too. At 4 months your pup should start to understand the idea of pooping and peeing outside do you agree with spanking? Not beating the crap out of the dog, but taking the dog to the spot, have her sniff it and spank her on the butt so she knows she did something wrong. I've used this on all my dogs and trust me they still love us just the same. Now dogs usually need to go to the bathroom after they eat - so i leave them outside for 30 minutes but this depends on whether you have a fenced yard. If not then put her on a leash and walk her once around the block - short walks do the trick rather than standing in one spot. Peeing would be the same - keep a schedule for your dog - so you can know approximately how long it takes for your dog. Don't sell her over one difficulty - she's still 4 months she's got a lot of learning to do. Part of owning a new dog is patience. btw - don't let her have free run of the house until she is fully potty trained - i usually confined my dogs to one area by putting up those barriers (the doggie ones u can buy at pet stores or home depot for cheap) Also they're always in my vision so if i'm in my room they'll be in the hallway. Once the dog wakes up i take him outside to pee

i totally know what you're saying! I had a roomate and her lab would do that ALL THE TIME! and we didnt get it man was it EVER annoying!!!! Personally i would be STRICK as hell and make sure the dog knows thats bad. Put it in a time out. My dog if he didnt something bad he gets "grounded" and he knows what it means now too. He goes to his bed and sits there until i say. Usually he sleeps with me so thats why i use his bed. He's actually a really good dog but the breed i have is very difficult to train aswell they're stuborn (boxer) so it worked best for me to be stern when needed but also give a tone of love. Trust me he's spoiled but he also needs discipline. I feel for you cause i know how annying it is.

If she is going that frequent, it could be a bladder infection. If she also seems to only go a little at a time and goes frequently. Puppies need to go out at least every two hours to start potty training. Then you can gradually keep them longer and longer. Remember, the puppy has a small bladder so just a little bit of water is going to fill her up. Good Luck!

I think your puppy just goes outside to mark her territory. Stay outside with her until she is completely finished, going #1 and #2. Take her for walks and even run with her.
If she goes in the same spot in your house, try putting her food and or water bowl in the area where she defecates, she wont want to potty where she eats.
when she does something good, make sure you praise her and reward her with a treat.
Try watching the pet whisperer on the National geographic channel...that guy is awesome.
Good luck

She is so young, you gotta give her time. Also, she might have a UTI if she is going 3 times in a row. A vet visit would be nice.
Make sure that when you take her out that she finishes. Even if it means staying out there for 30 min.
She'll get, patient is the key.

have you ever thought of litter training? they make special dog litter and litter pans that you can get at any pet smart. I did that with my italian greyhound becuase small dogs have small bladders and its wonderful. Now i don't have to take my little guy out in rain or snow and no more messing in the house just in his litter box.

Have you sat down with her and had a heart to heart? Maybe she doesn't realize how tinkling at your feet is making you feel. Often we pee at the feet of others to let them know we need our space, our individuality. Perhaps if you find some common ground with her you can come to a mutually beneficial solution...
or just swat her butt with a newspaper.
