Take him outside at least every 15-30 minutes after he eats. If you're at school or at work, confine him to one room or area, or get a dog walker.
Hitting or punishing the animal doesn't work. Neither does rubbing his nose in it. He doesn't know what he did wrong. Dogs have short memory spans.

I think I have some insight on this. I adopted a Chihuahua puppy. THEY ARE an indoor dog. I found the simpliest way to house break her, on newspaper in a choice of mine. I let her pee on the floor. I used the paper towel, and wiped it on the newspaper. This was her GPS system to search out the scent on the newspaper. HOWEVER, it's the 98% factor. Don't ever expect 100%. If you get 98% satisfaction, that's the BEST it will ever get. If you tick them off, they'll do a poop in your shoes, if they have access to it.

have had the same problem myself recently....asked a pro trainer...she says...don't shout at the dog...you will just stress it out and dogs don't speak english! all it will do is choose another place in the house to do it in. you need to take it in the garden every hour on the hour and give it a single command to associate with going to the toilet. I use...get it done..... and when your pooch does go to the loo you must praise him or her.....profusely lots of cuddles and good dogs..also an edible treat as that will make the dog associate toilet in the garden with good things. you also...however hard it is.......have to ignore messes in the house...just clean it up silently and take the dog out in the garden anyway. every hour on the hour...since i've done that...she hasn't pooed or weed once. . feed the dog early in the evening at about 5 or 6 pm and then take it out in the garden last thing at night before you go to bed for the last time. a dogs digestion is about seven hours so you should be ok till morning. as soon as you get up in the morning...take it into the garden.
trust me...it will work........

good luck.
