i broke my leg 8wks ago. the cast is off but i can't put any weight on it yet. i have had my rat terrier for 5yrs now and he has never tried to hump my leg before. he has allways walked behind us when we are moving from room to room. i walk with my left leg and my right leg is bent at the knee. all of a sudden a few days ago i was reaching for something and arty (my dog) licked my leg several times than just starting humping away. of course i moved my leg away and said no no no. ever since than he follows me kissing ( licking) my leg and gently pawing the back of my leg and than there he goes, right back on my leg. has this happened to anyone before. arty has never done this in the whole 5yrs i have had him. all i can say is arty thinks my broke leg is sexy.

My 6 months old cocker spaniel has recently picked up to bark at the door whenever she likes - it could be noise from tv, or i move my chair, etc.

I usually ask her to come to me when she runs to the door, or if i am closer to her I would about to stop here before she reached the door. I also tried putting her on a leash at home so i can correct her when she does that - but she will chew on the leash if i don that.

So any other suggestions or tips for me lover owners? thanks!

my best freind and comapion past away last NOV. he a was 3 foot tall 150lbs. rotti, best dog i ever owned...i recued him 8 years ago, hewas left out in the cold tied to a plow truck with tow chain around his neck, he was more loyal and devoted to me then any human could ever dream of being. I had the Vet come to my home to put him down, it was SO hard, i was drunk for a week straight. I missed him so much, all I did was cry, that same week i went to the shelter and adopted a rotti/hound mix, i love him dearly however, we don't share the same bond that TITAN and I did, I think of him every day,and think about how sad and lonley I am without him. my new dog (rex) reminds me ALOT of him. ( his demenor) we are slowly bonding, but can I ever love him the same way I loved TITAN?

I would like to know a lot more about Shihtzus and let me tell you why. I have had and bred them casually for 13 years, but now that I'm 56, I have a 2 yr old and a 3 year old and a 12 year old. This retirement had not been fun and I get sad and cry and am adjusting. I worry that they need a younger family because they adore their owners and I feel so badly that I am not more upbeat. I do take them for walks and throw the ball and all, but i also brood because empty nester/retirement/bad health aren't fun. Don't tell me to get a life, I am doing my best given the situation, but would like you Shihtzu lovers to help me think OK ? I love them so so much and they love me too but I want what is best for themm, and at this point it is'nt to change me.

I have a 12lb maltese and she jumped up onto my kitchen chair and onto the kitchen table and managed to open a closed box of chocolate pixies (chocolate, caramel, and nuts). I know chocolate is toxic to dogs. I looked on the box and I'm not sure if the pixies were milk chocolate or dark chocolate; however, it tasted like milk chocolate to me. Is there anything I can do to induce vomiting so I can get some of it out of her system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I work at a vet clinic, and a family came in with their three dogs and three kids. Each kids had their own dog. One was aggressive, he was Jennifer's dog. They said that he will bite anyone who came too close to Jennifer. They were so proud of this, laughing about it. The dad said, "I'm glad because I know I don't have to worry about any boys getting too close to her." So they encouraged the behavior, even though he has already bitten a few adult men (friend's of the father). We advised them to see an animal behaviorist, but they didn't feel it was necessary. Well a few weeks ago he bit one of Jennifer's young friends. She had to go to the hospital and get a bunch of stitches. After this the family euthanized the dog because they felt he was too dangerous. I was mortified when I found out, and I felt it was the owners fault for not getting behavioral help earlier on.

This REALLY angered me. I wish they would have taken proper steps earlier to help the dog. How do you feel about it?

What type of dogs are safe, gentle and sweet around toddlers and small children? Especially if the children like to pull and hit animals. (not intentionally hurting)

But also protective.
