I would like to know a lot more about Shihtzus and let me tell you why. I have had and bred them casually for 13 years, but now that I'm 56, I have a 2 yr old and a 3 year old and a 12 year old. This retirement had not been fun and I get sad and cry and am adjusting. I worry that they need a younger family because they adore their owners and I feel so badly that I am not more upbeat. I do take them for walks and throw the ball and all, but i also brood because empty nester/retirement/bad health aren't fun. Don't tell me to get a life, I am doing my best given the situation, but would like you Shihtzu lovers to help me think OK ? I love them so so much and they love me too but I want what is best for themm, and at this point it is'nt to change me.

There is nothing wrong with how you are feeling, god gave us pets as companions, freinds, family. did you know that by just petting an animal once a day can releive up to a 1/4 of your stress. if you have children, ask them to please take care of them when you pass. keep them, they love you, and you love them. there is always the humane sociaty, that can help you find a new, and just as loving home as you have provided.i'm sorry you are going through this.just do the best you can, and please remember the right thing and the hard thing(are usually the same thing)

It sounds like you are suffering from depression. I have been there and I can honestly say that my Shih Tzu helped me through it. He gave me a reason to keep on trying and I did things I didn't necessarily feel like doing for his sake. He was my reason for living and over time, I came out of the depression. You said a lot when you said you love them so much and they love you. They DO get very attached to their owners and it would be hard on them to lose you if you gave them away. I know without a doubt that you would miss them and it would probably make a bad situation worse. Have you considered seeking medical help? It's not for everyone but in a lot of cases medication can help greatly. Do you have anyone you can talk this over with? Someone that will listen and truly care? If so, you should. I wish you the very best and hope things get better soon. And if you do decide to get rid of your Shih Tzus I wish i was in a position to take them all because I think they are the greatest dogs in the world! : )

Hi, sorry to hear that you are not doing so good. But the good news is that there is people out there that are willing to give all the love you have given your dogs over the years. You can ask your vet. for a list of people who are looking for shihtzus to adopt and to care for. You may even ask for references. I know in my heart that your babies will be alright. It is a diffulcult task to let them go but, if you feel that you cannot care for them then you should think about adoption.

they dont need a younger family...
you sound like the perfect owner and any shihtzu would be lucky to live with you! i am also a shihtzu lover and to me it doesn't seem like they need a family of a certain age as long as their owner is caring and there to give them attention, everything is fine...
