My 6 months old cocker spaniel has recently picked up to bark at the door whenever she likes - it could be noise from tv, or i move my chair, etc.

I usually ask her to come to me when she runs to the door, or if i am closer to her I would about to stop here before she reached the door. I also tried putting her on a leash at home so i can correct her when she does that - but she will chew on the leash if i don that.

So any other suggestions or tips for me lover owners? thanks!

She seems to have learned that barking gets your attention - smart girl! Calling her to you and getting the desired response is good!
I think it is important to validate any barking - why is she barking?
was there a noise ? you are the top dog - go check, tell her 'all done', praise her when she stops - take charge and acknowledge the alert - but let her know there is need to continue, you have it under control now .

is she barking to go out to potty? praise her for doing her business -
is she barking to get you to play? you should be the one who decides when to play ...! ignore the barks by turning your back - and, while waiting for her to hush - evaluate how much time you have given her and start the play when you can safely feel a brief time has passed and playing can look to her like it was your idea!

When she barks you get your pistol and go look to see if someone is there. If not let her see no one is there. She will soon learn the difference between sounds objects and people make. Right now she is going to be barking at everything because she doesn't know, That is were you going and showing her there is nothing there comes in at.

You could use the ABS collar that sprays underneath your dog's chin. It will prevent your dog from barking because of the feeling and sound of the spray. You can ask your vegetarian for one but I highly advocate you not to use it on your puppy if it has seperation axiety. This method should only be used if other methods fail.

Your dog is just protecting you!!! I wouldnt want to train her to not bark in case you are in danger someday. I know it can be annoying, but your dog loves you and just has your safety in mind when she barks!

socialization seems to be an issue with your dog and also i would exercise her more....she will be calmer mentally and physically.
