My 5 month old daushound and poodle mix was spayed yesterday and will come home today, what can she do and what wont she be able to do. Is there anything I should watch out for or be careful of. She likes to jump on the bed and run.

Keep her quiet and the incision dry for at least a week. No jumping, running or climbing steps.

Don't let her jump up even if she wants to and walk her on the lead only for at least a couple of weeks. There are at least two layers of sutures and if she is too active they rub against each other and cause a fluid filled swelling called a seroma. You shouldn't need to clean the wound at all but DO NOT let her lick it. She can introduce infection. With an older dog just spayed you would cut there food back by a third to prevent them putting on weight but as she is so young she is still growing so don't cut the food back just yet but do keep an eye on her weight especially as she is a dachshund mix. Other than that give her lots of love and cuddles

Your vet should give the run down, but basically you want to keep her from running and jumping around, as you already suspected, to keep her from opening the incision. Other than that you will just need to check her belly for any signs of bleeding or infection. She should be as good as new in a week or so.

You just need to provide her with a comfy warm bed somewhere quiet for her to go if she wants.

Try to limit activity for the two weeks until she has her stitches out - no running and jumping! Keep her on the leash for walks. Stitches are fairly tough, but too much activity post op can cause a hernia (internal organs to poke through the muscle layer, requires another op!)

you have to keep her at bedrest for a little while my dog was just spayed a little while ago. I have a weiner dog and now she is just as active as she used to be she runs around outside and chases squirrels. You just have to give your dog time to heal.
