Absolutely NO pet stores! Getting a puppy from a pet store means getting an under-socialized, likely unhealthy with genetic defects, puppy.
Find a breeder that fits the specifications listed by the American Shih tzu Club, as listed here-http://www.shihtzu.org/Info/breeder_guidelines.asp?menu=Info .
Type Shih Tzu and your state (or ones around it) and then screen through breeders websites. If they look ok, give them a call. they should be curious and ask personal questions about your situation and what kind of dogs you have had before, etc. Then if everything seems ok, go visit them. If everything is fine, then plan on getting a puppy from them. if it isn't, or you feel uncomfortable, leave and try another breeder. Good luck!

Buying a puppy from a shop is an almost certain guarantee of heartbreak. These dogs are sick and you will spend thousands at the vet. Also - Please do the research about the kind of dog you want first (people who want a lap dog should not get a Jack Russell; people who are not athletic should not get a Border Collie....people who cannot abide barking should not get a Terrier of any kind, and so on)
Shops but puppies from puppy mills. These places are like puppy factories - filthy, disgusting cages that are never cleaned and mother dogs who spend their lives being pregnant until they are tossed out with the trash.
If we all decide to stop giving our money to these terrible places then they will have to close. A very good argument for looking at www.petfinder.com or for talking to responsible breeders!

NEVER BUY FROM A PET STORE!
Puppies in pet stores are purchased for ridiculous prices, and come from puppy mills. These puppies are usually sick, or usually have hip dysplasia, which will cost you thousands in surgeries for your lifelong friend.
If you want a purebred, buy from a responsible breeder. A breeder referral from the AKC is a good start.
RESCUING a dog is the best! There are breed-specific rescues, so if you're looking for a certain breed, look into that. Many dogs in shelters are purebred!

Don't purchase a puppy from a store, they are ''puppy mills'' with little regard for health or careful breeding. Contact local breeders instead. Start by deciding on a few breeds which you find pleasing and go from there.

Pet stores are HORRIBLE. They support puppy mills.
www.stoppuppymills.org for more info.
Go to a shelter, or find a breed rescue online, or use www.petfinder.com.
As a last resort find a super responsible breeder that only breeds so to better the breed, and not for money, and requires a spay/neuter contract on their pups.

Please do not buy a puppy from a store. These puppies come from puppy mills. Google that and be ready to be horrified. Do not support such cruelty.
Go to your local Humane Society. They have lots of puppies who need a good home and are on the list to be killed if not adopted. You do not need to look far or long.

You are kidding right? a store?
nothing like keeping those puppy mill breeders(?) in business.Either adopt from a shelter or go to www.akc.org and find a breeder that really cares for the breed.

The Humane Society or a pet shelter. The animals are cheaper, they get their shots and they get fixed. Save a poor dog or puppy from being put to sleep. You'll have a friend for life and you'll be happy you did it!
