Remove his food bowl from the floor between meals. When he's hungry place his empty food bowl on the floor. Once your dog realizes there's nothing in it, he will turn to you. Walk over to his dish, put a small amount of food in,go away from it. Once it is gone, feed him some more until he is done eatting. Be careful his muzzle isn't near the bowl while your filling it so you don't get bit!
If you believe that your dog is jsut protective of the bowl, take it away entirely. Pour the food on the food or someother place besides the bowl.
Never punish a dog that has food aggression. Punishment is often what causes this behavioral problem to begin with and will only make it worse. Your dog just needs to get comfortable and used to you with his food.

The only dog that ever did this was a Shih Tzu I bought from one of the Top American Show Breeders. I couldn't believe how aggressive she was towards the other dogs and just how much she ate. I kind of figured out that maybe she might of had to fight for every last kibble when she was with this jerk. Now she eats so nice and takes food so good from my hand, and she no longer takes it out of the other guys mouth. I never stopped her from eating frantically in her dish. But I did keep her from eating their food, and taking it out of their mouths. Treat time she also wasn't happy with just her treat, she had to steal theirs. She doesn't anymore. I made sure she knew it was wrong, and was not allowed. And as far as her dish. like I said she is an angel now. I think once your dog knows that he will always get fed well he will relax and slow down, and not be so aggressive. But teach him respect.

we had a dog like that. the reason we think she did that was because she was deprived of food as a puppy and so the aggression. every time she did it we would take her food away and let her stew for about an hour before giving it back to her. it took a while but she learned not to be aggressive when someone came near her while she ate.

I would say the best thing to do was start feeding him out of your hand put the food in you hand and close it every once and a while and while he is chewing the rest of the food up pet him lightly on his lower back. Then once he gets better at it start moving your hand closer to his head.
Hope it works. Good luck :)

Most dogs out grow that as they age and no one teases them while they eat. It might also help to use dog treats as a reward...it might lessen how he reacts to food.

Its a natural thing for them to protect their food, you could try bashing it out of him when he's being aggressive.

Stick your hand near or in his food bowl, and if he growls or anything, take it away for a while. Keep doing this and he will catch on and stop. If he isn't growling or anything, just keep your hand near his bowl everytime he eats. This will get him used to it.
