Earlier this year my dog that I've had for 14 years passed away, I miss her a lot and it feels so weird not having her around anymore. So now I'm starting to want another dog but I know my mom does not. I'm in my late teens, work, and have been taking care of my pets completely (paying for vet visits, food, cleaning up after them etc.) so it's not like I'm not responsible. Anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to convince her or how to go about asking her?

when people post a question about breeding dogs why do people answer with a load of backlash? people have got to start some where if they want to be a responsible dog breeder and at least they are trying to gather information, so why do certain folks think they can dish out a load of crap when someones asking for advice?

My dog had a minor eye surgery 2 days ago. It was nothing serious just a growth in his eye that had to be removed. Unfortunately for my dog he now has to wear a cone around his head and have an ointment put into his eye three times a day. We take the cone off while we are around him because we feel bad for him. But, whenever we try to get him to eat he will only take a few bites and stare at us as if he is mad at us. We have tried everything from putting wet dog food to left over turkey in his food but still he will not eat it and still looks at us like he hates us. Is this normal post surgery behavior or should I be concerned.

thanks for all answers, i let my reluctant hubby read them, and have progressed to leaving a message with Animal Rescue, to get back to me about giving a loving dog a good home.
Will you wish me luck, that i can find a lovely dog, to give a good home to, and make it part of our family?

My dog seems to have a problem with children, small children i've noticed. Everytime a child comes around he goes crazy! He starts barking and acting like a maniac, and might I mention the barking never stops until the child/ren are out of site. He also bites on the fence as if he's trying to figure out a way to get out of his gate. Honestly, I don't think he's had any bad experiences with children due to the fact that we've had him every since he was a puppy (about a month old), and every since we've had him no child has really ever been around him, but even I don't think thats the real problem. There is a guy down the street that came to our house and he has 2 children, one is 9 and the other is 5, and I noticed that the he didn't really bark at them, they were all at the gates playing around with him, he acted as if they didn't bother him at all. I dont know if the breed would have anything to do with this, but in case you all are wondering he's half chow and (we think) half fox.

I love my dogs and everytime I go out they want to come with me. And each time I go I say next time your staying home. They bark at everyone and everything. They would never hurt anyone, but they are ruining any chances of getting pet acting like that. I have tried quiet, and no, and grabbed them by the collar and no, and have tapped on their nose. I even have resorted to putting a mussel on them, one at a time of course. Because usually it only starts with one, but before long they all get going. I know they want to say hi, but I just want them to do it a bit quieter. They are all nice sweet dogs who just love people.

My best mate has just had a pup. She asked me about crate/cage training since I've had dogs in the past. I've never used it but i'd like to ask anyone who knows......How do you go about it? Is it really the best method for training? What alternatives are there?

I have a Jack Russell. He is about 2and a half. Within the last week, he has become aggressive to both my boyfriend and me. He is allowed on the couch, but I needed him to get down the other day and he showed me his teeth when I told him to get down. The same thing happened when my boyfriend came home, as well as the growling. We decided not to let him on the couch when we were there. Then two days later, when my boyfriend got up in the morning, he made the dog get off the couch, once again the teeth came out and the growling, so my boyfriend when to get him and put him outside, and the dog bit him. What's going on? Is it the age? Testing his authority or ours maybe? :Please help!!
