I love my dogs and everytime I go out they want to come with me. And each time I go I say next time your staying home. They bark at everyone and everything. They would never hurt anyone, but they are ruining any chances of getting pet acting like that. I have tried quiet, and no, and grabbed them by the collar and no, and have tapped on their nose. I even have resorted to putting a mussel on them, one at a time of course. Because usually it only starts with one, but before long they all get going. I know they want to say hi, but I just want them to do it a bit quieter. They are all nice sweet dogs who just love people.

It is natural for a dog to bark, it is how they communicate.

however if you keep 8 dogs
there are a great pack and much talking will occur.
Punishing them for vocalizing does no good at all ,
for the dogs do not understand,------what you,
the pack leader, wants of them

If you live out in the country that is fine

if you live close to other people, someone is going to object .

May i suggest you contact a kind, dog behaviorist
( i emphasise == a KIND behaviorist ====, no electric collars, no choke chains, no smacking , no shouting either etc )

reward for good behavior, at the exact right time , will work wonders , an expert will explain, just how you do that .

Your lovely dogs, need to have their exuberance channeled,
to fit your lifestyle ,
and for them to be quiet ,when you want them to be .

they will still express themselves, but in a more controlled way .
8 dogs, is quite a large pack to manage ,

but patience and with your love, and a bit of help from a canine expert ,
you should all be fine .
I love my three dogs too .

>^,,^<
good luck !

You have heard of Pavlov and him making a dog salivate at the sound of a bell using meat powder as a bridge?

You can modify your dogs behavior by using this theory. Find a way so that every time they start their barking there is a very loud noise followed by you giving a command to 'stop' 'quite' 'hush' or what ever word you want to use to stop that particular behavior.

I have conditioned mine by using a stick to bang on the wall from the inside, followed by the turning on of my porch light. During the day I turn my back to the front door and give it a coupe of loud kicks.

This works except for when there is really something to bark about. The barking will start down the street and come to us and then pass us by and the barking will continue until the dogs at the end of the street no longer see the trespasser.

I have seen this work in a kennel situation to where there are 5 in. bells hung through out the kennel all attached to a common string and with one pull of the string all the bells ring out.

Dogs learn best by association, so they will soon learn that their barking is what triggers the bell.

You could use a whistle, horn, air horn, dinner bell or you could even scream. Be consistent and have just a little patience and you can modify the behavior.

Well sounds like a chain reaction to me, one starts barking and they all join in. There are bark collars that zap them if they bark...just a thought. Have your neighbors complained?

Maybe 8 dogs is too much for 1 person to control, and properly train.

Eight dogs is seven too many. If you really need them all, invest some money and get them those shocking collars. Your neighbours will love you for it.
